Electric radiator and process for its manufacture.
Micanite or other insulation materials composed of individual scales, fibers or threads made of mica or other non-charring substances and suitable organic binders, whose use in electrical engineering is advantageous because of their good insulation properties and because of their easy shaping, for the manufacture of radiators is less common good use. Short circuits often occur soon after the radiator has been put into operation and a not inconsiderable part of the radiator has to be rejected as unusable.
If, according to the invention, the radiator is burned out before it is used, these inconveniences disappear. This is because, as detailed studies have shown, the cause of this is that the organic binders used in the production of the insulation materials, such as B.
Shellac, charring when using the radiator and. thereby become conductive. As the experiments have shown, they can, however, easily be burned out by heating with the admission of air, whereby the whole problem can be eliminated in a surprisingly safe manner.
EMI1.1
of the radiator perforated. '
The short circuits occur particularly easily at the bending points of the sheet metal jacket. The charred shellac residues that lie between the layers of mica particles often form a direct electrical connection between the heating wire and the sheet metal jacket at this point.
In order to ensure combustion here, the sheet metal jacket is provided with air openings 6 at the bending points.
Fig. 2 shows a radiator that is only on one. Side is covered with a sheet metal band 5.
This is held in place by the bent edges 7. Since one side of this heating element is freely accessible to air, a perforation at the bending points 6 is sufficient.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for producing electrical heating elements in which the heating resistor is embedded in insulation material which consists of fibers, threads or flakes of mica or other non-charring substances combined by organic binders, characterized in that the organic components present as binders within the insulation material (e.g. shellac) must be burned out before using the radiator.
