Abstract

Explosion and flame-proof electrical equipment, that is to say equipment with a housing of the "pressure-proof encapsulation" protection type, must satisfy specific regulations relating to connection to electrical conductors. The regulation applying to plug-in devices is that these must be interlocked such that they can be withdrawn only when they are not live. There are specific conductor inlets for such equipment which already have official approval. However, with a large number of conductors or conductor wires, the individual connection of the conductor wires to the equipment inside the housing is tiresome. The invention produces a plug-connector intermediate part which is attached to the housing and cannot be released until the approved conductor inlet has been released. The intermediate part permits quick connection of electrical equipment of the said type to an electrical conductor. When the conductor inlet is released, the housing is regarded as being open so that the said instructions for plug-in devices do not apply. A normal plug-connector is thus fitted inside the housing, which allows a plurality of types of conductor to be connected quickly.
