Abstract

Electric motor direct drive for vehicle wheels, in particular rail vehicle wheels, characterised in that, a) an electronically commutated electric motor (6) is arranged axially next to the wheel (4) to be driven, the rotor (20) of which motor is connected to the wheel (4) to be driven in order to transmit torque, the axes of rotation of the rotor (20) and of the wheel (4) to be driven being at least essentially flush with one another; b) the rotor (20) is constructed as an external rotor of the electric motor (6) without a housing and has annually distributed permanent magnets (50) and c) the stator (30) of the electric motor (6) on the side facing away from the wheel (4) to be driven is held fixed in terms of rotation to the vehicle (2). <IMAGE>
