Abstract

In a pneumatic actuator with locking means in end positions, especially for actuating smoke extractor flues in smoke and heat extracting installations, a double-ended piston (9) can be displaced by a pressure medium in a mating cylinder with two cylinder chambers (9a, 9b). For the purpose of reliable locking of the end positions, on both sides outside the closed cylinder chambers (9a, 9b) and in each case adjacent to one of said cylinder chambers a locking piston (3 or 4) can in each case be displaced concentrically with the piston rod (10), which locking piston is connected to the adjacent cylinder chamber (9a or 9b) in a manner conducting pressure medium. Each locking piston (3 or 4) has a sleeve-like section (e.g. 4a) which in one locking position embraces radially guided balls (ii). In this arrangement, the balls partially engage in an annular groove (e.g. 10a) connected to the piston rod (10). The sleeve-like section releases the balls radially outwards when it is moved away axially from them. In one embodiment of the pneumatic actuator, this locking device can be supplemented as a double-stroke cylinder by means of an additional locking rod on the piston rod and a pressure-controlled reversing valve, which actuates an additional locking piston co-operating with the additional locking rod. <IMAGE>
