Abstract
In a steam iron (1) with a water reservoir (8), a steam chamber (10) with steam outlet openings (11) in the iron soleplate (2) and a first valve (9) which controls the water supply from the water reservoir (8) to the steam chamber (10), the water flow through the first valve (9) is controlled via the iron pressure force or the iorn movements by the iron soleplate (2) being displaceable in relation to the first valve (9) so that the pressure ram (23) opens the valve (9). As a result of this, steam is only produced when the iron (1) is moved to and fro on the article to be ironed with a given iron pressure force. Setting the iron (1) down in the vertical position is then no longer necessary to prevent unnecessary steam outlet. <IMAGE>
