Abstract

The invention relates to a pressure sealing apparatus (1) for envelopes and suchlike articles provided with various areas coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive substance, which apparatus comprises at least a pair of oppositely-rotating pressure elements (4a, 4b) between which there pass at least those areas of the articles which are to be sealed, having been previously applied against each other. This apparatus is distinguished by the fact that the driving of the pressure elements is so arranged that their tangential speeds at the point where they contact the articles are different, with the result that they exert on the said areas to be sealed a combined pressing and rubbing action. At least one (4b) of the elements of the pair of pressure elements is a drive element, while the other (4a) may also be a drive element or may be driven by the pressure of contact, in which case a braking system is provided. <IMAGE>
