Abstract

1. A roller for deflecting, guiding or processing material in strip or web form, the roller having a shell (1) which comprises a layer of rubber of plastics material and which includes continuous bars (4), in particular of spring steel, which extend parallel to the spindle (2) of the roller and which are secured at the ends of the roller fo flangedrings (6) which are mounted in self-aligning bearings (8) on the spindle of the roller, the plane of rotation of which flanged rings is inclinable relative to the original plane of rotation by means of a displacement means, while retaining the axis of rotation, characterised in that the layer of rubber or plastics material of the shell (1) is additionally reinforced by reinforcing inlays (5) extending in the peripheral direction, in the form of rings or a coil spring, wherein the bars (4) carrying the shell and the reinforcing rings (5) are of such dimensions that the shell is sufficiently resistant to bending and crowning for the loads which occur.
