Abstract

The invention relates to a high-pressure steam engine, specially to drive motor vehicles, consisting of a single unit fitted with forced circulation vaporizers (2) supplied by a continuously working water feed pump (1), and superheaters (3) connected to said vaporizers, which respectively enclose one of the counter-cylinders (4) which are symmetrically disposed on an engine block (12) and surrounded by an intake air envelope (15). One piston from a pair of twin pistons (6) is guided in the jackets of said counter-cylinders, which are linked by a dual tubular yoke (7). In the inventive unit, a working member can be heated to a supercritical temperature and subjected to a supercritical pressure by continuous combustion of fuel or by heat emanating from latent heat storage. Said member is introduced into the counter-cylinders by electromagnetically controlled piston admission valves (5) without any clearance volume and is regulated by controlled cylinder outlet slits (10) so that a quantity of output steam is admitted into the condenser, the quantity of said steam being equal to the quantity of steam admitted into the cylinder during operation, and so that the quantity of residual steam can be compressed due to adiabatic (reversible) compression until steam pressure is reached.
