Abstract
In order to control traffic signal installations according to traffic, known vehicle sensors (12, 14) measure traffic data and transmit said data via lines to control units (3) of traffic signal installations (1). Up to now, the vehicle sensors (12, 14) are placed only up to distances of approximately 50 meters away from the traffic signal installation (1) due to increased line laying costs. As a result, additional remote existing traffic data can not be acquired for controlling. The vehicle sensors (12, 14) are equipped with a solar power device (16) and wirelessly transmit the detected traffic data via a radio transmitter (17) assigned to the vehicle sensor (12, 14) to a radio receiver (22) assigned to the control unit (3). Due to a power saving layout of the components the vehicle sensor (12, 14) works self-sufficiently. As a result, it is thus affordable to operate a traffic signal installation (1) at greater distances. The invention also relates to controlling light signal installations according to traffic.
