Abstract

To close bottles of sparkling wine, the cork and tie wire at the bottle opening is covered by a cap (8) which has an opening or cut to fit over the twisted eye (7) of the wire. The caps are delivered to the closing station by a wheel (20) with an intermittent rotating action. The wheel carries the caps through a calibration and cutting station, and then it is aligned with the design of the bottle opening and neck. The bottle (1) and the cap (8) are moved against each other, for the cap to be fitted over the bottle cork and held by it, and the withdrawn bottle takes its fitted cap with it out of the station. The cap is of a plastics film, coated on both sides with aluminum or tin, or it is an aluminum or tin foil.
