Abstract

The device includes a deaeration chamber (5), which is connected by a riser pipe (2) at its base to a siphon pipe (1), and, which has a suction connection (54) at its top. A vacuum supply (9) is attached to the suction connection, to reduce the pressure in the deaeration chamber with respect to that in the siphon pipe. A float valve (50) in the deaeration chamber opens and closes the suction connection according to the amount of liquid entering the deaeration chamber from the siphon pipe. The riser pipe enters the siphon pipe at a point to the side of the vertex (S) of the siphon pipe. Preferably a gas riser pipe enters the deaeration chamber above the liquid level (F1) and is connected to the siphon pipe at or near its vertex.
