Abstract

The appts. for mixing fiber suspensions, to give a pulp for papermaking, has a mixing vessel (5) with at least one upstream mixing pipe (6) with feeds (8,9) for the fiber suspensions (1,2). It has an outflow (10) leading to a downstream mixing pump (4). The outflow (10) opens into the feed (11) of diluting material (3) to the mixing pump (4). The mixing pipe (6) has at least one static mixer (7). The mixing vessel (5) has a mechanical stirrer (12), with a drive. The vessel (5) is enclosed and can withstand an overpressure, or the vessel (5) is open. The outflow (10) from the vessel (5) has a pump. The vol. capacity of the mixing vessel (5) is set so that, for a given mixing operation, the dwell time of the suspension is 8-15 secs. The mixing pipe (6) dimensions are set, for a given mixing operation, to give an average suspension flow speed of 1-2 m/sec.
