Abstract

The present invention concerns a nonwoven composite fiber structure produced by a method of forming a polymer into said nonwoven composite fiber structure, the method comprising the steps of: (a) liquefying the polymer, thereby producing a liquefied polymer; (b) providing a precipitation electrode (10); (c) charging said liquefied polymer to a first electrical potential relative to said precipitation electrode (10) ; characterized in that (d) forming a surface on said liquefied polymer of sufficiently high curvature to cause at least one charged jet of said liquefied polymer to be drawn to said precipitation electrode (10) by said first electrical potential difference, thereby forming a charged matrix of polymer fibers on said precipitation electrode (10) and characterized in that (e) supplying an aerosol of charged filler powder to said precipitation electrode (10) in a manner that electrical forces between said charged filler powder and said charged matrix uniformly distribute said charged filler powder within said charged matrix, thereby forming a composite material therewith. <IMAGE>
