Abstract

The machine (10) for cutting a food product, e.g. slicing a block of cheese, has a longitudinal wire cutter (12) and a transport mechanism (16,17) to move the food product (18) in an advance direction (20) in relation to the cutter wire. When in operation, the cutter wire is adjustable at right angles to the advance movement direction and at right angles to the cutter longitudinal line. An optical sensor (22) registers the contour (28) of the food product, especially as a laser sensor, laser scanner or a line camera, to set the movements of the cutting wire.
