Abstract

An ink jet card printer (20) is disclosed that includes an ink jet printhead (22) and a transport mechanism (24). The ink jet printhead (22) is adapted to print on portions of a surface (42) of a card (21) that are presented in a print position (44) along a print path (39). The transport mechanism (24) includes at least one cantilevering mechanism (62, 64) that is positioned to a side of the print position (44) along the print path (39). The cantilevering mechanism (62, 64) is adapted to unobstructively present the surface (42) of the card (21) to the printhead (22) in the print position (44).
