Abstract

A device for guiding a continuous strip (S) past a marking unit, which is arranged to non-mechanically provide markings on at least one strip surface, comprises a longitudinal channel (220) for receiving the strip (S). The channel (220) is at least partly defined by guiding elements (222, 222') which are arranged for abutment against the strip (S) from opposite sides of the channel (220). At least one of the guiding elements (222, 222') is displaceable and biased towards the channel (220). In this device, the strip can be positioned with high-precision without being subjected to excessive frictional forces during the marking operation, to minimize any interference with the motion of the strip. <IMAGE>
