Abstract

Immunoassay of IgM antibodies (Ab1) in liq. samples contg. Ab1, IgG antibodies (Ab2) and opt. also IgA antibodies (Ab3) comprises reacting the sample with antibody against Ab2 (and if appropriate against Ab3). The reaction mixt. is then treated with an antigen (Ag) bound to finely divided particles and with free Ag. - The degree of agglutination/nonagglutination of the Ag-contg. particles is measured; the quantity of Ab1 present is inversely proportional to the quantity of particles not agglutinated. The method can also be used to determine IgG+IgA by subtracting the IgM concn., as measured above, from the total antibody content.
