Abstract

The method involves overlaying a direct current in a fluorescent lamp and determining a direct current portion of a fluorescent lamp current. A lamp power output of the fluorescent lamp is controlled with the determined direct current portion as a control variable and a variable analog or digital direct current-reference variable. An operation of the fluorescent lamp is controlled before igniting the lamp based on the direct current portion as the control variable. An independent claim is also included for an operating device for controlling a fluorescent lamp.
