Abstract

A radial rolling head for e.g. a lathe has a number of rollers spaced equidistant around the rolling head. The roller surfaces have a spiral increasing thread in the direction opposite to their rotation. The rollers are coupled by a toothed gear. The rollers have a locking mechanism that engages automatically after completion of each full turn. Prior to each rolling sequence the locking mechanism is disengaged by a movable catch. The rolling head further has a drive that starts after release of the catch and continues until the roller surfaces contact the tool, then engaging with the tool by friction with the assistance of an electromagnet. The electromagnet is linked to the catch and activated by a switch-operated battery power supply in the radial rolling head.
