Abstract

1. Method for closing a filled container (12), which is preferably arranged horizontally and preferably consists of a plastically deformable material, with a lid blank (11), which preferably consists of an elastic material, the container (12) comprising a first flange part (66), which extends horizontally outwards, and a second flange part (67), which adjoins the latter vertically, the lid blank (11) comprising an edge area which projects beyond the second flange part (67), the lid blank (11) being drawn into the container (12), the edge area of the lid blank (11) or a part of the edge area being pushed into the corner formed by the first and second flange parts (66, 67) and the second flange part (67) being folded over in the direction of the first flange part (66), until the edge area of the lid blank (11) is gripped between the two flange parts (66, 67), and possibly being pressed on, characterised in that during the folding operation the edge area of the lid blank (11) is held flatly against at least one flange part (66, 67) in the corner formed by the two flange parts (66, 67) against the restoring force produced when the lid blank (11) is drawn into the container (12).
