Supporting device arranged at the side of a water closet (WC), for disabled people, serving as a support (14) for a WC seat (13), characterised in that the support (14) is arranged on (at least) one post which is telescope-shaped and is equipped with a damped spring device such as a pneumatic spring (62) with a certain counter-pressure and a stop device (58) which restricts the downward movement against the pressure of the spring device to an adjustable height, and in that the stop device and the spring device are arranged in such a way that when a WC user sits down his weight causes the WC seat to move downwards in a damped manner against the force of the spring device until it reaches the using position.
