Abstract

1. A level equalising element for a dimensionally stable apparatus such as an item of furniture comprising at least four legs and intended to be stood on an uneven surface, the element comprising a piston (16) the bottom end face of which constitutes a floor contacting zone and which is spring loaded, being guided in the direction of the floor contacting zone, with a locking member (28) which, in a lower position of the piston, can be switched by a switching device (30) from a locking position in which the locking member (28) constitutes a lock which can be loaded by the part of the weight of the apparatus which can be introduced into the respective leg (12), into a released position and which, in an upper position of the piston, can be switched from the released position into the locking position, characterised in that the locking member (28) is constructed as a locking ring having clamping edges (44, 46) extending around the inside, the switching device (30) comprising an upper (32) and a lower (34) abutment shoulder connected to the piston (16), the abutment shoulders acting on the locking member (28).
