Abstract

This method and this apparatus are designed for the packaging of a food or other product in a shallow display tray to which is attached a thermoplastic film, welded on its edges. Before welding of this film inside a leaktight chamber (1-2), under vacuum, the portion (4) of this film (3) which is located inside this chamber is heated, whilst the tray (8) to be closed and its contents (P) are placed beneath this film. This tray (8) is then lifted into a position such that its contents (P) press into the corresponding portion (4) of the film so that the latter completely encases the projecting part of this product. After the film (3) has been welded, under vacuum, onto the peripheral rim (13) of the corresponding tray, the vacuum is released so that the corresponding portion (21) of the film is applied closely over the projecting part of the product. This method and this apparatus may be used for the packaging of various products, particularly food products. <IMAGE>
