Abstract
The distillation residue arising in the fractional distillation of spent oil, waste oil or the like is heated until it reaches a flowable state and, while screened from further heating, introduced into a pyrolysis reactor (10), where the distillation residue is subjected to pyrolysis by means of a fluidised bed (16) which has been indirectly heated to 400-900 DEG C. As a result, approximately 90 % of the distillation residue is converted into utilisable pyrolysis oils and pyrolysis gases. <IMAGE>
