Abstract

In the renovation of old chimneys, a new circumferentially insulated inner tubing (1) is inserted from above into the shaft of the existing outer casing (4). For this, the individual tube sections (1a) of the inner tubing (1) have to be equipped, before introduction into the outer casing (4), with an external thermal insulation composed of tubular insulating shells (2, 3, 3a). So that the tubular insulating shells (2, 3, 3a) can be attached simply and in a trouble-free way by being pushed on, but at the same time guarantee a firm fit on the tube section (1a) by friction, the tube sections (1a) are manufactured with a considerable oversize (x) in relation to the outer surface of the associated tube sections (1a), thereby guaranteeing that they can be pushed on in a trouble-free manner. The necessary frictional fit is obtained by means of a continuous bead-like end tapering (7) which engages at the end of the pushing-on movement and secures the frictional fit with an adjustable surface pressure. This design of the tubular insulating shells (2, 3, 3a) requires no additional production outlay if the shape of the winding mandrel is given an appropriate contour. <IMAGE>
