Abstract

In a method and apparatus for obtaining a high content of solid matter in the dewatering of sludges, especially sewage sludges, the sludge first being dewatered in a screen-band press (1, 31) and thereafter in a following high-pressure press (22, 32), the largely dewatered sludge cake coming out of the screen-band press (1, 31) is comminuted or broken up. The comminuted material is thereupon distributed and layered and is fed to the high-pressure press (22, 32). Because the material has been comminuted and relayered, a more thorough dewatering in the high-pressure press (22, 32) becomes possible. <IMAGE>
