Abstract

Method and device for the intermittent stretching of portions of an at least two-layered web of material, in particular a lid foil web, which surrounds a layer of paper, in which the paper layer is moistened before introduction of an extension force into the web portion to be stretched. This moistening is here carried out immediately before the stretching operation, there being provided two clamping devices (8,10), which are arranged at a distance one behind the other in the running direction of the web, clamp a web portion (13) to be stretched, are capable of being switched on and off and are each provided with clamping elements (11, 12) which can be moved against the web, and a stretching tool (9) which is arranged between the clamping devices (8, 10). The stretching tool (9) comprises a beam-shaped pressure piece (16), which is aligned transversely with respect to the running direction of the web and extends over the web width as well as a drive (15), by means of which the pressure piece (16) can be moved with a movement which is in perpendicular alignment with the plane of the clamped web piece (13) from a starting position disposed on one side relative to the plane of the web piece (13) into an end stretching position. In this arrangement, the stretching tool (9) is preceded in the running direction of the web by a web- moistening device (7).
