Abstract

A padded member consists of a filling which contains a nonwoven, around which a covering material is placed on one or both sides. In order to produce an inexpensive, form-stable product having good support properties, it is proposed that the filling be formed from a so-called voluminous nonwoven, in which there are binding fibres made of material which is capable of thermofusion. This binding-fibre nonwoven is compression moulded with the covering material to form an integral padded shaped member and a relief is thereby generated at least in some regions on its face side. In accordance with the relief profile, the binding fibres are deformed in the interior of the nonwoven and are thermofused both with one another and with the covering material, by which means the relief is permanently fixed in the padded shaped member. For this purpose, a special method for producing a padded shaped member of this type is also proposed. <IMAGE>
