Abstract

A shingle system for covering sloping roofs and also capable of being used as wall cladding. The shingles are made from a thermally insulating material and each main shingle (10) comprises, on its lower face (14), a network of intersecting channels (24, 26) communicating with the channels of adjacent shingles for ventilation of the space between the support surface and the shingles, in order to prevent water condensing. The shingles are spread out in intersecting rows and in longitudinal rows and comprise keys (58, 60) for blocking, between them, adjacent shingles along the two types of rows. The shingles have water-repellent barriers (46, 48) at their upper faces (12) for preventing rainwater swept by the wind from penetrating the junctions between the adjacent shingles and from emerging on the support surface. Concealed passages (62, 64) are provided in order to facilitate the flow of this water therein. Ridge shingles, as well as shingles for side edges, are also proposed for preventing water reaching the support surface, while allowing free circulation of air between the shingles and the support surface. A fascia board is also provided for the same purpose. <IMAGE>
