Abstract

The invention relates to a support (3) for fixing the spirals (2) of gas-filled incandescent lamps having a tubular envelope (1) and with flattened ends, and a method of manufacturing the support (3) and placing it in the envelope. The support (3) according to the invention is provided with a spiral first section, whose length exceeds at least one complete turn pitch and which presses on the inner wall of the tubular envelope (1), and a second section which connects onto the first section and whose length likewise exceeds at least one turn pitch, and which second section surrounds the spiral (2) and whose internal diameter is greater than the external diameter of the spiral (2) arranged in its interior. During manufacture and during insertion of the support (3) in the tubular envelope (1), one end of a flexible metal wire is mounted on a mandrel (5) provided with an insert (6), the wire is wound on the mandrel (5) and on the insert (6) for a length which in each case exceeds at least one turn pitch, the wire is then cut to length and the tubular envelope (1) is pushed onto the mandrel (5) provided with the wire, after which the mounted wire end is released and the mandrel is pulled back. <IMAGE>
