Abstract

1. An electric knife comprising, in a casing (10), a drive unit (12) alternately driving in opposite directions two parallel slides (18) each of which receives a blade (20) extending through a slot (22) formed in said casing opposite to each of said slides (18) and being retained in said slide by means of a latch (24) which may be released when the user actuates a releasing button (26) for the blades (20), and which further comprises an actuating switch (14) for the drive unit as well as a safety ram (30) which may assume either a locking position in which it prevents closing of the switch (14) or an operating position in which it permits closing of said switch (14), characterized in that said knife comprises at least one tab (40) retained in said casing so as to be movable between a slot covering position with respect to the slots (22), in which position it is disposed within the space between said slides (18) and said slots (22) and into which position it is returned by an automatic resetting means (52), and a slot exposing position with respect to said slots (22), in which position it is disposed outside of said space and into which position it may be brought by actuation of an actuating button (26) through the user, said actuating button being movably mounted at the casing (10) and being operable only when said safety ram (30) is in its locking position.
