Description

14 6n2 This invention reiates to telescopically adjustable
posts for incorporation for example in partition wall
arrangements. As is previously known, there may be used
a number of such posts embodying means for fastening
between floor and ceiling of a room. It is the object of the invention to provide a
simple, yet sturdy arrangement of such posts, whereby
these may be given a safe clamping at the same time as the
post is automatically able to adapt itself to any possible
variation which may occur in the distance between the
parts of a building e.g. floor and ceiling, between which
these posts are fixed. These variations may be caused by
tolerance deviations in the construction of the building
as well as subsequent changes caused by the building
"settling" or for other reasons being subjected to material
expansion or contractions, e.g. on varying loads. According to the invention there is provided a
telescopically adjustable post for use for partition walls, said post comprising an elongate member and an
adjustable extension member telescopically slidably
movable inside the elongate member for adjusting the length
of the post, and a helical spring arranged inside the post for urging the adjustable member in a direction out of
one end of the elongate member, the adjustable extension
member being provided along its length with slots for
insertion of abutment means for one end of the spring,
the other end of said spring resting against a bracket
14 6n2 secured to the elongate member. A preferred embodiment of post suitably comprises
an elongate metal member of suitable cross-section
telescopically to receive the extension member. The spring
presses the extension member in a direction out of the upper end of the elongate member, i.e. to a firm rest against e.g. the underside of a ceiling.
The slots in the slidably movable extension member
provide fixing of the abutment means for the one end of
the spring at optional distances depending on the length
to which the extension member is extended. In this way
the post may be easily adapted to the actual ceiling height or the like.
In order to elucidate the invention further, a
preferred embodiment will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, it will be
understood that the details only are shown and described
as an illustration of the invention and that the said
details may be modified in many ways within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:-
Figure 1 shows in perspective view the upper portion
of a telescopically adjustable post according to the invention, and
Figure 2 shows, on a smaller scale, the post
fixed between the floor and the ceiling.
-n elcngle member 6 is, as seen, at the upper
end provided with a telescopic slidably moveable extension
14 6n2 member 5. The latter is along its length and at suitable
intervals provided with slots in the form of transverse cuts or slits 1. A flat plate 2 which fits into any of
these slits.is provided, said plate 2 by means of its
lower side forming an abutment for one end of a helical
spring 3 the other or lower end of which rests against a bracket 4 secured to the member 6. In the example
shown, the lower end of spring 3 rests against the lower
upwardly bent end of an angle bracket 4, the upper end
of the bracket 4 being bent to make a grip about the
upper edge of the member 6, as clearly seen from Fig. 1. Coarse adjustment or adaption of the length of
the post is performed by placing the plate 2 into a
suitable slot 1. The spring 3 will then ensure that the
post is safely fixed between the floor and the ceiling and adapts itself to variations which occur. The spring 3, being hidden inside the post, will
be well protected, and neither visible nor disfiguring.
Only the front edge of the plate 2 and the slits 1 lying
above are visible. There is thus obtained an embodiment
which is attractive, aesthetically speaking in addition
to a rigid, simple and efficient device which serves
the stated object of the invention.
As mentioned, modifications of the embodiment shown
and described may be easily visualized. For instance,
the slits 1 may be replaced by other forms of slot for
co-operation with pins or the like forming an abutment
14 672 for the spring. Also other embodiments of the co- and the abutment operation portions of the slide extension 5 means 2 may be easily visualized. per Friction devices 7, 8 may in a manner known
se be arranged between the ends of the post and the ceiling and the floor, respectively.
