 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  New sprayed concrete preparation process
The present invention relates to a new process for preparing shotcrete containing resin, as well as the dry mixture used in this process.

   Concrete containing resin and having improved mechanical properties can be prepared according to the usual methods or by spraying. In the case of the spray method, it has been proposed to pass through separate channels of the lance, on the one hand the usual dry components (the hydraulic binder and the aggregate), and on the other hand the emulsified resin with hardener and water. As a result, special equipment is required, especially as is preferred when the emulsified resin and the hardener are added as fluid streams in two separate ways. In addition, the dry components on one side and the fluid components on the other, are not homogeneously mixed.

   The Applicant has now found a process for preparing shotcrete containing resin, a process by which the dry components of the concrete are mixed with the resin and the hardener as well as with the adjuvants and this dry concrete mixture is passed through the projection lance where it is wetted with water and sprayed. The method of the invention makes it possible to obtain a homogeneous mixture of all the components, to reduce the development of dust and to prevent the concrete thus sprayed from rebounding on the wall without adhering to it. In addition, the method of the invention makes it possible to use the usual equipment intended for dry projection.

   According to another aspect, the invention relates to the dry concrete mixture obtained in the first step of the process and comprising the hydraulic binder, the aggregate, the reactive resin, the hardener and optionally-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 Soluble and / or solid additives, the dry concrete mixture being fluid and can be stored as it is for several hours.

   The hydraulic binder used in the process and the dry mixture of the invention can be Portland cement, aluminous cement or a cement with additions, for example pozzolanic cement, slag or other types of cement, Portland cement being prefer. In addition to the usual aggregates such as sand and coarse aggregate, solid additives such as iron, glass or polymer fibers, pigments and fillers such as fly ash, silica smoke, lime can also be added. and other known materials.

   The reactive resin used in the process and in the dry mixture of the invention is preferably an epoxy resin as commonly used in the field of construction. Other known resins are the addition of isocyanates or polyester resins. The hardener which is added to harden the epoxy resin can be any known hardener, for example a polyamine or a polyaminoamide.

   The soluble adjuvants which can be added to the dry mixture used in the process of the invention are the usual adjuvants, for example thinning agents, setting retarders, air entraining agents, anti-freeze agents, etc. The setting accelerators such as aluminates, silicates, alkaline agents and their mixtures, are however preferably added to the water which is sent to the mixture in the spray lance.

   According to a preferred variant of the process of the invention, the reactive resin, the hardener and any optional soluble admixture are first mixed.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 LEMENT in the composition of the final mixture, with a minimum amount of water necessary for obtaining a homogeneous mixture. This mixture is added in the mixer to the hydraulic binder, to the aggregate and to any solid adjuvant, these components preferably being well mixed before the addition of the mixture containing the resin.

   The dry mixture of the invention is then introduced into a conventional dry spraying apparatus of the rotor type in which the fluid dry mixture is brought under pressure (with compressed air) to the spray lance where it is wetted with the required amount of water, possibly containing a setting accelerator, and sprayed.

   The quantities used are preferably the following:
The basic mixture consisting of cement, aggregate and solid additives contains from 8 to 80% of cement, preferably from 15 to 30%, from 20 to 92% of aggregate, preferably from 70 to 85% , and from 0 to 20% of solid additives, preferably from 0 to 10%, all the percentages being understood by weight relative to the total weight of the mixture. Based on the weight of the cement, the dry mixture of the invention contains from 2 to 20% of epoxy resin, preferably from 3 to 10%, from 2 to 20% of hardener, preferably from 3 to 10%, and 0 to 20% of soluble additives, preferably from 0 to 2%. Based on the weight of the hardener, this mixture contains from 0 to 200% water, preferably from 50 to 120%.

   In the spray lance, a total amount of 30 to 50% of water is added to this mixture relative to the weight of the cement (including the water used to prepare the mixture), and the mixture thus obtained is projected. Water can contain from 0 to 10% setting accelerator relative to the weight of the cement.

   The following example illustrates this

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 invention without in any way limiting its scope. In this example, the parts are by weight.

  Example
10 parts of epoxy resin, 10 parts of hardener and 2 parts of plasticizer are mixed with 10 parts of water. This mixture is added to a mixture prepared beforehand and consisting of 650 parts of aggregate (0-4 mm) and 150 parts of Portland cement. The resulting dry mixture is introduced into a dry-type spraying apparatus of the rotor type and is wetted with 50 parts of water. The sprayed concrete obtained according to this process was subjected to tests according to the Swiss standard SN 640 461; after 400 freeze cycles and treatment with molten salt, the concrete shows no damage.
