 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  Refractory ceramic construction part.

   The present invention relates to a refractory ceramic construction part, which is designed, for example, as a pouring tube, a dip tube, a lance, a one-piece plug, etc., the refractory ceramic construction part being composed at least partially of sections rolled up as a bandage.

   Such a construction part has been described, inter alia, in document DE 29 33 143 C2 as a lance intended to inject oxygen, nitrogen and / or argon. To this end, a steel tube is coated with one or more layers of refractory fibrous string, or with a net, a strip or a fabric, and
 EMI1.1
 then impregnated with a muddy or pasty mixture, muddy or chewy compound composed of a refractory material and a solution of sodium silicate. After drying the first layer, apply a second layer composed of a refractory material and a binder which soaks the network of refractory fibers.

   In this way, the aim is to obtain an increase in the wear resistance and the resistance to thermal shocks on the lances.

   The structure of a refractory ceramic construction part, wound at least partially in the form of a bandage, has the advantage of being able to obtain, by means of the support material (a network of refractory fibers for example), high mechanical stability. In the case of a lance, for example, the support material
 EMI1.2
 acts as a reinforcement inside the coating -nt ---- eur of the re, stubborn refractory.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The object of the present invention is to improve the above-mentioned technology and to make it usable in new applications.

   To this end, the present invention is based on the following reflection: there are a large number of fields of application for which it is desirable for the refractory material to have an objective and subjective seal, at least on certain determined parts. This is the case with pouring tubes, for example, in which it is a question of preventing the penetration of oxygen into the casting jet. According to the documents DE 93 18 726 Ul and EP 0 065 514 Bl, the pouring tubes are provided for this purpose with a gas-tight external metal tube. This design makes it possible at the same time to avoid, in the event of cracking of the refractory lining, a total disintegration of the pouring tube.

   For other applications, such as gas-washed matte, for example, the sealing of the refractory material must meet requirements such that it prevents lateral diffusion of the treatment gas which passes through the gas-washed matte.

   The invention has recognized that, in order to solve the two completely different problems mentioned above, it is possible to use a refractory ceramic construction part, which is composed at least in part of sections wound in the form of a bandage and having the following characteristics - the sections wound under: bandage elm have cavities extending inside the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 refractory material, which have been formed by evaporation or combustion of a corresponding support material or a coating applied to the support material, after drying, malleabilization or baking of the construction part.

   In other words, during the manufacture of a refractory ceramic construction part in accordance with the invention, it is formed at least in part from sections wound in the form of bandages. For this purpose, the bandage has a support material, one or two faces of which are coated - just like a plaster plaster bandage - with a refractory mass. The corresponding sections are made with the bandage according to suitable winding methods and the component is then subjected to a drying, malleable or baking treatment.

   If a combustible support material is used at these temperatures, the reinforcement function mentioned above is certainly canceled, but at the same time in situ cavities are made available, which can then be connected to an external pipe of gas inlet and in which a process gas, for example an inert gas, circulates.

   In another embodiment, the support material consists of a refractory material, ceramic fibers for example, and a coating which evaporates or is consumed during the drying, the malleability or the baking of the component, and a refractory paste, a refractory mortar or the like, made around said coating. The case

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 if necessary, the coating can itself be composed of a refractory paste or mortar.

   In these different cases, the support material is kept during drying, malleability or cooking; said coating, however, contracts, evaporates or completely burns out, so that tube-like cavities are formed in the refractory material around the support material, which - just as described above - can also be connected to external gas sources.

   The last mentioned embodiment has the advantage of maintaining the reinforcement function of the support material and of promoting the thermal and mechanical stability of the construction part, even at operating temperatures.

   In the case of a pouring tube, as described above, the embodiment according to the invention has the advantage of being able to avoid the use of an external metal tube. Mechanical stabilization is ensured by the support material. Any oxygen infiltration is avoided since the cavities described are connected to a source of inert gas, which during use injects a stream of inert gas through the cavities and avoids an aspiration of oxygen towards the jet. of casting.

   While the cavities described fulfill a "passive" function in the embodiment cited above, it is also possible to use the same principle with a mat washed with gas, the cavities playing in this case a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 "active" function, in particular allowing the admission of a treatment gas into the metal casting.

   The object of the invention is also to choose the material of the support material, the nature and the dimensions of the support material, and if necessary, the coating according to each application.

   For many fields of application, it seems rational to design a support material in the form of a network (two- or three-dimensional), so that it forms in the building part, ultimately, also a pore system in the form of a network, either by the combustion of the support material, or by retraction, evaporation or combustion of the coating possibly applied to the support material. This coating can be composed of a synthetic resin or a wax, for example.

   However, depending on the field of application, it is also possible to design a support material in the form of a string, in a helical shape or similar systems. The present invention in no way limits the many possible systems.

   It is crucial that the cavities are formed in the refractory material through or around the support material, and that they are located in parts of the construction part which have been wound in the form of a bandage according to the method described.

   In the case of a pouring tube, it may be rational to produce the inner part of the pouring tube in a conventional manner by casting or pressure molding and to wind on the inner part a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 bandage section. This section increases the safety of use of the entire pouring tube, in particular when cracks appear on the inner part, the development of which towards the outside is prevented by the tire, which also makes it possible to avoid an unwanted air intake from outside.

   The construction part, in the form of a laminate, obtained by winding, allows to bond selected refractory components which can be adapted to the stress profile. Once again, the choice of refractory material is oriented according to each application. Refractory oxides, such as aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide or magnesium oxide belong to typical categories of refractory materials which can find an application in accordance with the invention.

   The present invention is explained in detail below in support of the manufacture of a pouring tube.

   To do this, an internal section of the pouring tube is first produced by the conventional method, by casting or by pressure molding. A bandage is then wound on this inner part which is obtained in the following manner: it has a support material forming a network of aluminum oxide fibers, which are coated with a wax, the support material being inserted in a deposit refractory aluminum oxide. The bandage is then wrapped in a cross shape around the inner part and the construction part as well
 EMI6.1
 manufactured is then subjected to a drying treatment, 1 to malleability and / or to cooking, which causes

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 evaporation of the wax coating and thereby the formation of channel-shaped cavities around the reticular structure of the support material.

   Finally, preferably connected on the side of the inlet end of the pouring tube, a central gas inlet pipe to the pore channels, in which an inert gas such as l circulates during use. 'argon.

   The appended schematic drawing shows such a pouring tube, the inner cast section of which bears the reference 10 and the wound outer part the reference 20, the pore channels in the form of networks being represented diagrammatically and bearing the reference 30 and the central connection of inert gas being designated by the reference 40.

   Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above and shown, from which we can provide other modes and other embodiments, without departing from the scope of the invention .
