 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Advanced training in front brakes for motor vehicles.

   The present invention relates to the automotive industry and more particularly it relates to a new and significant improvement in front brakes for motor vehicles.

   These front brakes are generally formed by brake shoes which, by an appropriate control, are clamped more or less against drums integral with the front wheels.

   The improvement, which is the object of this invention, is aimed above all at the means of obtaining certain and effective braking on the two wheels, whatever the direction of these wheels.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 last *
This object is achieved by mounting the rollers over which the control cable passes, so that their axis is precisely in the extension of the axis of the rocket.

   For this purpose, said rollers are each mounted, for example, on a bracket integral with a plate which is located in front of the brake drum. The cable after passing over this roller is attached to a lever which acts on the brake shoes; it should be noted now that this cable thus passing from one wheel to the other will always have the same length whatever the direction of the two wheels, and that consequently the braking effect will always have the same effectiveness.

   The accompanying drawings show by way of example one embodiment of this Invention $ in these drawings:
Fig.1 is a schematic plan view of the braking mechanism of the two front wheels of a motor car.

   Fig. 2 shows a diagram of the various positions of the cable when changing the direction of the wheels.

     Fig. 3 gives an assembly detail of the brake levers.

   Fig. 4 shows an assembly diagram of the controls. referring to these drawings, 2-21 denote the brake drums solved by the wheels 1-11; 9-91 denote trays located @
On these plates is mounted a bracket carrying a wheel 4-41, which wheels both have their axis in the extension of the axis of the spindle represented by points 3-31,
5-51 are levers integral with a cam which will open the brake shoes.

   A cable attached to lever 5

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 goes through the groove of the roller 4, then obliquely goes over the roller 6, from the onto the rollers 7 and 71, goes through 61 then into 41 and finally is attached to the lever 51 of the other wheel. referring to Fig. 2 where the figures of Fig. 1 have been transferred, when the wheels of the car are in their normal position, the cable coming from 61 passes tangentially over the roller 41 at points 201 and 211 and is attached at 51. At this time, for the other wheel, the cable is in the same position. If the wheels are directed completely in the direction of arrow 23, point 51 will take its place at 52. The cable will come at 61 and pass tangentially through 201 211 and 221.

   So that the lever 51 does not work, the cable will have to lengthen by a part equal to the distance from 211 to 221. But by the steering, the other wheel, turned in the same direction, caused at the lever 51 a position similar to that of point il, 53, which means that the cable would take a position identical to the following: 6 passing tangentially through 201 to go to 53. we see that for wheel 1 the cable would have du / shorten by a length equal to the distance from 201 to 211.- Now, as the graph shows, the distance from 201 to 211 is equal to @@ the distance from 211 to 221.

   Therefore, by turning the wheels in any direction, the part of the circumference of the caster lost by one wheel will be made up by an equal part of the circumference of the other wheel *
Fig. 3 shows how the control of levers 5 and 51 works to brake on drums 2 and 21 by means of the cam and the jaws. The wheel 7 and its support are shown in full size. The roulette wheel turns freely around its axis. The support is attached to a lever 12, fixed on a blade 13, by an axis 14.

   When by the effort provided by the driver on the control lever, point 15 is pulled in the direction of the arrow, the-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 vier 12 describes an arc of a circle 16, drives in its course the support 10 and the wheel 7. This is what causes the cable to be pulled on the levers 5 and 51 of Fig.l and 5 of Fig.4. The levers 5 and 51 open the jaws which rub on the brake drums.

   What has been said for roulette 7 is the same for roulette 71. So whatever the position of the wheels, the brake only works when the driver pushes on the pedal.

   The braking control can be effected at any point of the cable by pedal or other suitable means.
