 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

D'une manière analogue, un second dispositif conforme à l'invention, peut être agencé de façon que son enroulement secondaire soit relié directe- ment à l'enroulement excité en fonction de la tension;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

   n&est   pas sensiblement modifiée,
Si, lorsque le défaut se produit sur le feeder 12c, la barre omnibus était très chargée, indépendamment des feeders12b et 12c,il pourrait arriver que les courants transmis par les deux feeders, seraient tous deux dans le même sens, celui du feeder sain, étant notablement plus grand, et celui du fee- der défectueux, étant la somme d'une composante négative et d'une composante positive ;

  TO SYSTEMS: OF FIRANSFORI4fiI0N OF ELBSTRIC CURRENTS "
The present invention relates to current transformers, and essentially relates to a device having a characteristic such that the intensity of the secondary current is almost constant when that of the primary current varies between large limits.

   According to the invention, two magnetic cores are used having portions of the primary and the secondary, arranged on each of them, so that the voltages induced in the secondaries are in opposition; the turns of these portions, and the reluctances of the nuclei, are proportional or. chosen so as to obtain the desired characteristic.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The invention also relates to the combination of a transformer device with a protective apparatus for alternating current circuits.

   The description which follows, with reference to the accompanying drawing, given by way of example, will make the nature and the advantages of the invention clearly understood. the Fig.lrepresent of the magnetization curves. las Figs. 2 and 3 give the secondary current curves as a function of the primary current.

   Figures 4 and 5 are connection diagrams of single feeder systems according to the invention. Finally, Fig. 6 is a diagram relating to the case of several feeders mounted in parallel,
According to one embodiment of the invention, the primary and secondary windings of two transformers are respectively connected in series (that is to say the primary with the primary, and the secondary with the secondary), and arranged as it has been said; the primary and secondary windings have approximately equal turns, respectively, but one of the cores has a slightly greater reluctance than the other.

  Preferably, annular cores are employed; if they are similar, a slot can be made in one of them, to increase the reluctance of its magnetic circuit.

   With such a system, the magnetization curve of the lower reluctance iron core can be analogous to the schematic curve A in Fig.l; that is, a curve which rises rapidly from the origin, changes direction when the nucleus is saturated, and then merges roughly with a straight line of slight inclination.

   The abscissas of this curve represent the magnetomotive force, or, for a determined number of turns, the excitation current; the ordinates represent the flux density, or, for a given cross-sectional area, of the core, the flux itself. If the other nucleus, that is to say the nucleus of greater reluctance, has dimensions and a reluctivity (or specific magnetic resistance) similar to those of the first nucleus, except for the slit, its curve d 'magnetization could be analogous to the curve B in Fig.1.-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

The voltages induced in the secondary windings, being respectively proportional to the fluxes in the cores, and these voltages being opposed to each other, the resulting voltage * is proportional to the difference between the ordinates of curves A and B,

   represented by the lines marked C. For all the values of the excitation current, greater than that represented by the aboising CD, the lines C have an approximately constant length. the curve in Fig. 2 shows the variation of the secondary current, or of the resulting induced voltage, as a function of the excitation current *
In addition, if it is desired that the margin of the primary currents, providing a constant secondary current, be greater, it is possible, by suitably proportioning the numbers of turns of the primary and secondary windings, to modify the curves A and B, or one of them, so that, for excitation current values lower than that represented by the abscissa OD, the difference of the ordinates, represented by the lines C,

   is made more or less constant up to points relatively close to the origin, so that the bump E (Fig. 2) is more or less eliminated, Practical tests have made it possible to obtain the curve shown Fig. 3. the present invention can be applied, for example, to protective devices for alternating current circuits, of the type in which the operation of a protective relay depends on the phase relation between two currents (for example of the phases of the current and of the the voltage of the protected circuit), but is independent of the intensities of these currents,
The device which is the subject of the invention can be arranged so that its primary winding is excited under the effect of the current flowing in the protected circuit, while its secondary is arranged to actuate a protection relay,

   together with a winding excited under the effect of the voltage of the protected circuit, under the influence of a predetermined vector difference between the currents flowing in the windings,
Similarly, a second device according to the invention can be arranged so that its secondary winding is connected directly to the winding excited as a function of the voltage;

   the primary winding being thus excited under the effect of the voltage of the protected circuit,
Protective devices for alternating current circuits, employing transformation systems of the type envisaged above, are

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 shown in Figs. 4 to 6. Figs.4 and 5 are connection diagrams relating to the case of a single feeder, while Fig.6 relates to a system comprising at least two feeders mounted in parallel. the bus bar 11 is connected to the feeder 12 by a circuit breaker or circuit breaker 13. The protection system comprises a protective relay 14 which, when actuated, energizes the trip coil 15 by the bus bar, or other source suitable, and the circuit breaker 13 opens the feeder circuit.

   The transformation device according to the invention, designated by 16, comprises two similar annular cores 171 and 172, of which portions 181 and 182 of their primaries are connected in series with the secondary of a current transformer 19, of which the primary is excited by the current from the feeder 12. A slot 21 is made in one of the cores to reduce its reluctance.

   The secondaries comprise portions 221 and 222 which are coiled in opposition to one another. The secondaries 22 are connected in series with the coil 23 of the relay 14, the resistor 24, and the secondary 25 of a potential transformer 26, the primary of which is energized by the voltage of the bus bar 11. The windings 22 and 25 are arranged to supply opposing voltages to the coil 23.

   The operation of this system is as follows Under normal conditions, the voltage which is induced in the secondary 22, and applied to the coil 23, is opposite and approximately equal to that which is induced in the secondary 25 of the potentiol transformer 26, and applied to the same coil. The ohmic resistance 24 is relatively large, and acts both to lower the current taken by the potential transformer, to a suitable value, and to ensure that this current is approximately in phase with the voltage. Under normal circumstances, when the power factor of the feeder is unity, or is relatively high, there is no resulting voltage applied to coil 23.

   However, if an incident or fault occurs on the feeder causing the current to reverse, the voltage applied to the coil 23 by the transformer 16 is reversed, and the voltage to the coil. 23, is the arithmetic sum of the two voltages applied to it.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   Under these conditions, relay 14 operates, and thus disconnects feeder 12.

   If a fault occurs which goes beyond the device (straight-through fault), on the feeder, when it is very overloaded, the secondary current of the transformer system 16 is not much greater than it is required. 'was under normal conditions, and consequently, relay 14 does not operate unless the vector difference between the voltage and the current of the feeder reaches a value determined in advance. If desired, the relay 14 can be arranged to operate in the event of low or zero voltage. This effectively corresponds to a Sectorial difference between the current and the voltage of the feeder 1a, which is half of the maximum vector difference.

   The system of Fig.5 differs from the previous one, mainly in that the transformation device 161 is placed in a circuit receiving a current of the voltage. This transformation device 161 ensures that the resulting voltage applied to relay 14 depends on the vector difference between the current and the voltage of feeder 12, independently of the change in value of this voltage.

   However, in Fig. 5, instead of the coil 23 being energized directly by the secondary windings 22 and 25, it is mounted in series with the secondaries 27 of current transformers 28, 29 which are supplied, respectively, by the current in the protected circuit, and its voltage, The primary winding 181 of the device 161 is connected to two of the other phases of the bus bar, and thus receives a current which is in quadrature with the voltage of the feeder 12 .

   To obtain a correct vector relationship between the currents flowing through transformers 28 and 29, a large inductor 31 is connected in series with the secondaries 221 of the device 161, which acts to bring the phase of the current approximately back to that of the phase. voltage of the feeder 12. An ohmic resistor 32, which is connected in parallel with the primary of the transformer 29, is arranged to compensate for the phase shift which could occur as a result of losses in the copper and the iron of the transformer, FIG. 6 shows a system for the protection of three single-phase feeders 12a, 12b, and 12C, connected in parallel. When all three feeders are working, effective protection is achieved by a single protective device.

   However, when only two feedeis are in operation, a pro-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 balanced (balanced) tection, power) should be used.

   In the drawing, the feeder 12a is assumed to be out of service, and the switch 33a is in a position where it bypasses the protective devices of this feeder. The current transformers 19 are connected in series to form a circulating current circuit. If the feeders are normally designed to receive equal currents, the transformers 19 are all similar. If the feeders are designed to receive an unevenly distributed load, the current transformers are constructed so that, under normal circumstances, their secondary windings receive equal currents.

   The primary windings of the device 16 are connected at equipotential points 30 of the circulating current circuit. The primary windings of the transformers 29 are powered by the potential transformers 26, and these circuits include an inductive resistance or inductor 31, and an ohmic resistance 32, for the reasons previously indicated.

   The operation of this system is as follows: Under normal conditions, with the feeder 12a off, the current flows through the secondaries of the current transformers 19b and 19, but without passing through the primary windings of any of the control devices. transformation 16. The relays 14 are thus only energized by the potential transformer 26 and the transformers 29, and these relays are constructed so as not to function in these circumstances.

   When a fault occurs or an incident occurs on one of the feeders 12 or 12c, for example the feeder 12a, if the bus bar is not connected to any load, other than by said feeders, the fault is ali - directly fed by the feeder reaches 12c, and by the healthy feeder 12b. Under these circumstances, it could happen that the currents transmitted by these two feeders are equal to each other, but that the current transmitted by the feeder reached is vectorially opposite to that transmitted by the healthy feeder.

   In this case, the differential current passes through the primary windings of the transformer device 16, and is proportional to the arithmetic sum of the currents transmitted by the feeders. This activates the protective relay 14, but not the relay 14b, because the vector difference between the currents of the secondary windings 27b of the transformers 28b and 29b,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   is not significantly modified,
If, when the fault occurs on feeder 12c, the bus bar was very loaded, independently of feeders 12b and 12c, it could happen that the currents transmitted by the two feeders, would both be in the same direction, that of the healthy feeder, being notably greater, and that of the defective feeder being the sum of a negative component and a positive component;

   therefore, the faulty feeder current would be about zero - if the negative and positive components were roughly equal in absolute value.

   In each case, a current proportional to the differential current, excites the primary windings of the device 16, and, combined with the voltage supplied by the potential transformer 26, it actuates the protective relay
14c, excluding relay 14.

   The switches can advantageously be actuated by their associated circuit breakers, being arranged to bridge the upper set of contacts, when the circuit breaker is open, and on the lower set, when it is closed *
It is understood that the arrangements and applications which have been indicated above, by way of example, are in no way limiting, and that one can depart from them without thereby departing from the scope of the invention.
