  HEBPE0!EIOMmiM!CS AUX MOTEURS ASMCHROIÎES d'INimTION eu C9UNE-OIROCI!!' ..

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

   The present invention relates to short-circuited induction motors started by direct connection with the line without the use of a rheostat, compensator, or any other starting device, having a high starting torque with low. current consumption and high efficiency at full load with a good power factor * The invention is achieved by an improved secondary winding of induction motors as explained and described in the following,
We know that, in an asynchronous motor having a determined number of.

   active conductor at the secondary, the motor torque is maximum when the dispersion reactances in the secondary circuits equal the resistance

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 stances, and, moreover, that the maximum torque is inversely related to the dispersion choke in the secondary circuits. It is also when the dispersion reactances equal the resistances that the phase shift of the currents absorbed by the motor is minimum,
This is the reason why the dispersion chokes in these motors are reduced and that we usually insert, for starting in the secondary circuits, additional non-inductive resistors which are adjusted to the reactors.

   When the secondary reactances are minimum, that is to say when the engine reaches its operating speed, the resistances are eliminated.

   However, we could constantly maintain these resistances in the secondary circuits and shunt them by low-resistance additional induction chokes. Under these conditions, during starting, when the secondary currents have a relatively high frequency, these additional chokes oppose the passage of currents which mainly flow through non-inductive resistances. the additional chokes intervene only slightly in the equivalent choke of the circuits and it is easy to give values such to the resistances and to the additional chokes that we have at start-up equality between the resistances and the equivalent reactances while maintaining for the equivalent chokes of the values close to the dispersion chokes of the motor secondary.

   When the motor reaches its operating speed, the secondary currents being of relatively low frequency, the reactances of the additional chokes are low compared to the additional resistors * The secondary currents mainly flow through these low ohmic resistance chokes and the additional resistors come into play for little in the equivalent resistances of the secondary circuits. However, the equivalent chokes under these conditions are considerable and the power of the motor at normal speed is reduced.

   The invention consists in bhuntering the resistive elements of the secondary circuits referred to above, by low ohmic resistance elements whose self-induction decreases with the frequency of the secondary current, these self-inducing elements themselves acting as active conductors. when the motor reaches speeds close to synchronism.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   We know that the deeper an active conductor is embedded in the mass of the core of an asynchronous motor, the more the dispersion choke of this conductor is considerable and that this dispersion choke also decreases, with the speed of the motor, the common flow penetrating more deeply the nuclei pitch the weak slips.

   In accordance with the invention, the active conductors housed at the periphery of the core of the secondary are connected, on the one hand, with other surface active conductors via resistors used for starting and, on the other hand, with conductors engaged deeply in the mass of the core and offset with respect to the first by one or an odd number of pole steps the description which will follow, with regard to the appended drawings given by way of example, will make it clear that nature and advantages of the invention Fig.l shows a wound rotor according to the inventions
In this figure, the active conductors 1 housed at the periphery of a rotor of a tetrapolar asynchronous motor are interconnected by the intermediary of two resistive rings 2-3 and are further connected.

   by the low ohmic resistance connections 4, with the conductors engaged deep in the rotor core and offset with respect to the former by one pole pitch. FIG. 2 shows one of these connections 4 connecting a conductor of the periphery 1 to a conductor 5 housed deep in the mass of the core and offset with respect to the first by a pole pitch. The dispersion coil of this conductor 5 is adjusted according to the depth of the notch and by the arrangement above this conductor 5 of a magnetic or non-magnetic medium 6 according to the characteristics to be achieved; and the claims of Belgian patent 311,278 of May 3, 1923 can be applied to the present invention.

   It is evident that above the conductors 5 separated from them by magnetic or non-magnetic thicknesses, surface conductors 1 can be accommodated, but the conductors 5 need not be necessary. ranent housed in the same notches as the conductors 1 to fulfill the role assigned to them * Fig. 2 also shows one of the resistance rings 2 bringing together the active conductors of the periphery 1.

   Fig. 3 shows the winding diagram of this rotor.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   The active conductors of the periphery 1 are joined together by resistant rings 2 & 3 and are connected by the connections 4 to the conductors 5 offset by a polar pitch with respect to the first and housed deep in the mass of the rotor for present an appreciable dispersion choke on start-up.

   Figs. 4 and 5 show two winding diagrams produced according to the invention. According to. Fig. 4, the active conductors of the periphery 1 are connected by one end to a low resistance ring 7 and by the other end, on the one hand, to the resistance ring a and, on the other hand part, to conductors 5 via the @ connections. the conductors 5 are themselves connected by their end opposite to the low resistance ring 8. The rings 7 & 8 must not also be electrically isolated from each other.

   According to Fig.5, the active conductors of the periphery 1 are joined together by the resistance ring 2 and by the low resistance ring 7; they are, moreover, joined by means of the connections 4 to the conductors 5 housed deeper in the mass of the rotor and offset with respect to the first by a pole pitch. FIG. 6 represents a winding section described in the patent application filed in Belgium on March 10, 1926 under No. 263,756 and particularly suitable for carrying out the invention ,.

   In the few types of windings described as examples, the conductors 5 exhibit appreciable starting safety because they are housed deep in the core of the rotor. The currents induced by the flow @@ ommon on starting in the conductors 1 therefore pass mainly through the resistors
2 (and 3) and the rotor starts with maximum torque because resistors 2 (& 3) have been calculated to achieve equality between the resistances and equivalent reactances of the circuits at start-up and because, in addition, the chokes of equivalent dispersion have been reduced to a minimum.

   When the motor reaches speeds close to synchronism, the conductors 5 are cut off by the common flux penetrating the mass of the rotor more deeply at low sliding speeds and the conductors 5 therefore largely lose their dispersion chokes. The currents induced by the common flux in the conductors 1 pass only in much smaller proportions through the resistors 2 (or 3) and the rotor presents in normal operation, a maximum torque because the equivalent leakage chokes of the circuits have been reduced

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 as a minimum and that the equivalent resistances at weak slips equal the equivalent dispersion reactances,
For speeds intermediate between starting and normal speed,

   an intermediate speed is established and the engine maintains its maximum torque
It is understood that the arrangements which have been indicated above by way of examples are in no way limiting and that one can deviate from them without thereby departing from the scope of the invention *
