Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

  "Proceeds to burn fuel in the divided state $.

   According to a known system for burning pulverized fuel, this is projected from top to bottom in front of the front wall of the combustion chamber and the flame goes first downwards and then upwards. combustion air being introduced through openings in this front wall.

   In order to protect the side walls against damage caused by the heat which reaches them by radiation or by convection and, at the same time to increase the evaporating surface of the boiler, the side walls of the chamber have been provided water tubas, one

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 way well known today.

   However, it has been found that these tubes arranged laterally are capable of cooling the flames which lick them or approach them, to a degree such that there is even the production of smoke, while the flames located more in the center of the hearth are not only slightly cooled. This irregular cooling makes it difficult to correct the tendency to. smoking by adjusting the air supply and it is desirable to have more uniform cooling.

   The present invention improves the system in question by eliminating the water tubes from the side walls and by constructing the front wall of the combustion chamber from water tubes provided with longitudinal fins which are cut at the places where the aforementioned openings. air intake must be spared. Such a wall is not new in itself, but its incorporation into the aforementioned system produces a new effect by uniformly cooling the flames directed downwards and thus avoiding the difficulties mentioned above.

   In practice, what is called a water screen is employed at the lower part of the combustion chamber or, in the system in question which has water tubes to protect the side walls, six collectors closed a essential part of the fireplace, four of these collectors being necessary for the side water tubes and two for the water screen. The improvement according to the present invention makes it possible to reduce the number of these collectors by at least two, since the lower collector for the tubes of the anterior wall can also be used for the water screen.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The accompanying drawings represent the invention.

   Pin 1 is a vertical section through a fireplace and boiler incorporating the present improvements.

   Fig. 2 is a cut along line 2-2 of the
Fig 1, drawn on a larger scale, and
Fig. 3 is a section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1.

   The combustion chamber A has an outlet orifice 7 above which is located the boiler 8 which, thanks to the large evaporation surface exposed, as will be seen below, directly to the radiant heat, can have a lot smaller dimensions and have fewer tubes than in the case of a standard boiler of this type. The pulverized fuel is preferably introduced from top to bottom through an overhanging vault 9 by means of burners 10, preferably arranged in a row, which direct the fuel downwards into the combustion chamber on one side. from the outlet 7, so that the flow of fuel and flame follows a U-shaped path through the combustion chamber, combustion being substantially completed before the flame reaches the tubes 8 .

   Fuel and vehicle air are supplied to the burners through lines 11 and additional combustion air (eg about 20 to 30%) is introduced through the boxes. burners, in a known manner.

   The front wall is constructed as follows: Properly supported uprights 12 carry a shell 13, preferably metallic, lined with a suitable insulating material 14 which need not necessarily be very refractory.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   At some distance from the insulating covering there is a wall B composed of a number of tubes 15 provided with longitudinal fins 16 which are welded thereto, preferably. These tubes are preferably arranged, as shown in Fig. Fig. 2, with the fins of the adjacent tubes substantially in contact, thus forming a wall.

   The fins allow the tubes to be properly connected to the upper manifold 17 and to the lower manifold 18; they also help to force the wall and conduct heat to the tubes; 1 together constitutes a very efficient evaporative apparatus. At suitable intervals, the fins are interrupted to provide entry slits or openings.
19 where it is desirable to introduce additional combustion air. In the present case, there are sufficient air inlets 19 to compensate for the air deficit necessary for combustion.

   The air which passes through the openings 19 is supplied in the following manner into the space between the tube wall B and the insulating coating. The side walls are hollow, the empty space being divided, as in known constructions, into a number of horizontal compartments 21, the front ends of which are connected to the space existing between the tube wall and the lining. insulating. The compartments 21 are open to. their rear ends to admit the outside air, their inlets being controlled by registers Indicated schematically at 22.

   The space between the tube wall and the insulating covering is also divided into Horizontal compartments 23 coinciding with the compartments 21, by means of refractory shelves 24 which have a width greater than that of the space existing between the wall of the tube.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 tubes and coating. The outer edges of these shelves rest on bolts 26 or other suitable support members and their inner edges are notched as at 27 to fit the tubes 15 and rest on these and also on the fins 16, if one the desire.

   Due to their length, the shelves when assembled occupy the position shown in FIG. 1 and must remain in place. Surrounded, they do not constitute a rigid connection between the inner and the outer parts of the wall and, moreover, the tube wall is preferably suspended from the manifold 17, the inner part of the wall can easily extend and contract without force nothing.

   The insulating cover, the shelves and the bolts are fully protected from heat due to the high absorption capacities of the tube wall; in this regard, it should be noted that although the air passing through the cavities of the walls is previously heated, it does not reach a temperature high enough to be harmful. By suitably adjusting the registers 22, the air intake can be adjusted to suit the heating.

   To the manifold 18 are connected a number of tubes 28 constituting a water screen C in the bottom of the combustion space, above the ash hopper 29. This screen is used, as is known, to cool the gases. residual particles which pass through it to reach the ash trap. It also serves as a very efficient evaporating element. The tubes 28 are inclined backwards and upwards and have their posterior ends connected by suitable fittings 30 at the lower ends.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 tubes 31 which form a screen for the rear wall
D; these tubes 31 can also include fins.

   Behind the tubes 31 is a wall or altar made up of the uprights 32, the shell 33, the insulating lining 34 and the refractory lining 35, this wall having a local thickening at the location of the lower ends of the tubes.
31 and terminating where the tubes 31 pass through the wall 36 which is supported by the frame 37. At the places where the tubes 28 pass through the altar 35 and / or the tubes
31 pass through the wall 36, there are sand jams 38 intended to allow the tubes to move in operation. The upper ends of the tubes 31 are connected to the manifold 39 which, in turn, is connected to the boiler by suitable fittings 40.

   Down tubes 41, suitably connected to the boiler and of a size sufficient to conduct the desired quantity of water, serve the collector 18 and the tubes 15 are upright as well as the tubes 28 and 31. In the In this case, the manifold 17 is suitably connected to the boiler by one or more tubes 42.

   From the above, it appears that the invention gives a very simple construction of a hollow front wall and a simple construction of a rear wall, as well as an arrangement of the tubes inside the combustion chamber which holds. account for expansion and contraction, this arrangement being very simple and comprising a minimum number of parts.
