<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

4 d'échange d'atmosphère dans laquelle on prévoit un cla- pet d'entrée d'air 5; un flotteur 6. établi dans chacune desdites cham- bres 3 et dont est solidaire un clapet 7 susceptible d'ob- turer l'orifice de communication entre le jaugeur corres- pondant et ladite chambre à flotteur;
un dispositif d'inversion automatique se composant, par exemple comme le montrent les dessins, d'un piston 8 coulissant dans un cylindre 9 qui réunit les jaugeurs par leur partie inférieure et d'un tiroir 10 constitué par deux pistons rigidement reliés entre eux et commandant l'entrée du liquide dans les jaugeurs, ainsi que leur sor- tie un dispositif de déclenchement brusque 11 relié de façon telle, aux tiges des pistons 8 et 10/quel, sous. l'ef- fet de la pression du liquide dans le jaugeur 1 en rem- plissage, de dispositif à déclenchement s'arme et oblige le tiroir 10 à passer brusquement de l'une de ses posi- tions extrêmes à l'autre, afin de permettre alternative- ment le remplissage et la vidange de chacun des deux jau- geurs ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"Improvements made to automatic liquid measuring and dispensing devices".
The invention relates to measuring devices - automatic dispensers of: liquids / comprising two gauges emptying and filling themselves alternately under the effect of the liquid pressure created in that of the gauges being filled, and this at the using an automatic reversing device; and it concerns more especially (because it is in their case that its application seems to offer the most interest), but not exclusively, among these devices, those for liquid fuels.
Its aim is, above all, to arrange these devices in such a way that, during a measuring operation, the arrival of the liquid in the filling gauge is interrupted as long as the other. gauge is not completely empty.
"It consists, mainly, in having recourse @
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to a movable shutter established in the pipe for supplying the liquid to the devices of the type in question (pipe which is normally open) and connected to a device capable of actuating said shutter when a float, established in the drain line, allows it, and when there is an appropriate pressure in said liquid supply line.
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions, which are used: preferably at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below.
It relates more particularly to a certain mode of application (that in which it is applied to liquid fuels) and certain embodiments (those which will be indicated below) of said provisions; and it relates more particularly still, and this as new industrial products, to the apparatus of the type in question comprising the application of these same provisions, as well as the special elements and tools specific to their establishment.
And it can, in any event, be well understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the accompanying schematic drawings, which supplements and drawings are, of course, given above all by way of reference. indication.
Fig. 1 of these drawings shows, in vertical section, a measuring-dispensing device for liquids, comprising two gauges and an automatic reversing device and established in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 shows, in the same way, another apparatus, of the same type and with the same object, established in accordance with a variant of the invention.
According to the invention, and more especially according to that of its modes of application, as well as those of the methods
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of the realization of its various parts, to which it seems that preference should be given, proposing to establish an automatic measuring-dispensing device for liquids, the procedure is as follows, or analogously.
As usual, and as shown in the drawings, a liquid measuring-dispenser device is established, comprising: two gauges 1 and 2, of equal capacity, each comprising at its upper part a chamber 3, both 3 bedrooms communicating with each other by a pipe
4 atmosphere exchange in which an air inlet valve 5 is provided; a float 6 established in each of said chambers 3 and to which is integral a valve 7 capable of closing the communication orifice between the corresponding gauge and said float chamber;
an automatic reversing device consisting, for example as shown in the drawings, of a piston 8 sliding in a cylinder 9 which unites the gauges by their lower part and of a slide 10 consisting of two pistons rigidly connected to each other and controlling the entry of liquid into the gauges, as well as their exit a sudden release device 11 connected in such a way, to the rods of the pistons 8 and 10 / which, below. the effect of the pressure of the liquid in the gauge 1 when filling, the trigger device is armed and forces the spool 10 to pass abruptly from one of its extreme positions to the other, in order to alternatively allow the filling and emptying of each of the two gauges;
a discharge line 12 through which the liquid and to be dispensed is admitted into one or
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the other gauge, depending on the position occupied by the drawer
10, the liquid being discharged into the apparatus, for example by a pump (not shown) in the manner which will be indicated later; and a drain line 13 which allows the liquid to be dispensed to flow from one or the other gauge, also depending on the position occupied by the drawer.
10.
And, this time in accordance with the invention, recourse is had to, as shown in FIG. 1, to a capacity 14 communicating with the delivery of the pump and into which opens, by entering it in a sealed manner, the pipe
12, the lower end of which is arranged in the form of a seat for a valve 15 - which is normally open - - provided with a tail 16, which passes through to @@@@@ @a @@@ a @@ de the pipe 12 passing through a sealed guide-bearing surface that the said wall comprises, and extends beyond this range by crossing a flexible membrane 17, fixed therein as well as the capacity 14, so as to form, this side, sealed bottom for said capacity; all so that, when said membrane is at rest, said valve is open.
This membrane 17 also forms one of the funds of a second closed capacity 18, the other base of which is provided with a sealed guide bearing 19 for the end of the extended tail of the valve 15. Between the latter base and the membrane 17, there is provided a spring 20 suitably calibrated, or even adjustable, which tends to maintain said membrane in its rest position. A room 21, with float
22 suitably guided, advantageously forms part of said capacity 18. This float chamber comprises at its lower part, an elongated housing 23 in which can move, vertically and freely, for example a ball 24 fixed to the free end of a rod 25 of which
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the other end is fixed to the bottom bottom of the float
22.
This ball, when the float occupies its low position, is located opposite the end of the tail of the valve 15 and constitutes for the latter in a way a stop. Said chamber 21 is connected, on the one hand, to the drain port 13 of the device and, on the other hand, to the drain line 26 proper of said device, so that the liquid leaving said orifice is obliged to pass into said chamber 21 and to raise the float 22. the apparatus, being mounted as shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1, works as follows.
Suppose, for example, that the gauge 1 is being filled while the gauge 2 is being emptied, which corresponds to the position shown.
EMI5.1
feeling of the various organs, at 1 = exceptian u lotteur 22.
While pumping, the liquid is pumped back into line 12, passing through valve 15. As soon as the liquid from / rising in gauge 1, reaches the float
6 corresponding and the lifts valve 7 also corresponding closes the air exhaust port of said gauge and, as a result of the pressure of the liquid which is created in this gauge and which acts on the piston 8, that - this is pushed to the right. By means of the snap-triggering device 11, the slide-piston 10 comes to occupy its. extreme position to the left.
Considering that the pump flow rate may be greater than the flow rate of the device itself, there is a risk of filling the gauge 1 before the gauge 2 is completely empty and thus creating "superposition. "at the time of the reversal.
It is enough at this time. to stop, for a very short period of time, the operation of the pump, or by ceasing to actuate the pumped lever when using a pump. hand, or by making act, in a way

and a- suction line of the pump, liouJL allows valve 15 to open again.
During this time, the gauge 2 will have been able to empty itself completely, the float 22 in descending will bring the ball 24 in front of the tail of the valve 15 and this ball 24 will again act as a stop for the tail of said valve.
In this way, the gauge 1 will be able to go completely and, under the effect of the pressure of the liquid which is then produced there, the spool 8 will be pushed to the right and will cause the triggering of the pressure relief device. - version, thus putting the gauge 2 in filling and the gauge 1 in emptying, as indicated above.
To allow free play of the membrane 17, the inside of the capacity 18 is subjected, in a suitable manner, advantageously to atmospheric pressure, and, to prevent any liquid from entering this capacity, the inside of the capacity is made to slide. 'end of the valve stem 15 in a sealed manner in the guide seat 19.
To avoid water hammers which could occur when closing the valve 15, it is possible to combine, as shown in FIG. 2, with the arrangement shown in fig. 1, a return line 27 de-

relative to the discharge pipe z but cMpët # as regards the pipe coming from the pump when said valve is applied to the seat corresponding to said discharge pipe.
The operation of the device thus modified
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
is in principle the same as that of the apparatus shown in FIG. 1.
There is an advantage, in the two arrangements described, of slowing down the oscillations of the diaphragm 17 which could occur by causing the valve 15 to act, for example, as shown in FIG. 2, an additional shank 28 secured to any damping device, for example a small piston 29 which can slide in a cylinder @ev @@@ e @ 0.
As a result, an automatic measuring device-dispenser of liquid fuels is obtained with which it is not possible, on the one hand, to carry out a new dispensing of liquid as long as the entire quantity of liquid measured during of the previous operation is not completely discharged and, on the other hand, to obtain the triggering of the device, as long as the exact quantity of liquid to be discharged is not measured.
As goes without saying, and as moreover already emerges from what precedes, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to those of its modes of application. realization of its various parts having been more especially indicated; it embraces, on the contrary, all the variants.
