1 pourvu d'un manomètre l'et d'une soupape de sûreté à contre- poids (non figurée), dans lequel est accumulé un liquide tel que eau ou huile sous pression pneumatique ou sous l'action de l'air comprimé, ce liquide étant l'agent qui agit sur l'une des faces du piston 2, ajusté au moyen d'anneaux de garnitures 2' dans un cylindre 3 dans le corps du moteur proprement dit, ce moteur étant semblable à tous les moteurs à explosion à mouve- ment alternatif et constitué par plusieurs cylindres avec pis - tons accouplés par des bielles 4 à la même manivelle 5, en mo- difiant simplement l'angle d'accouplement aux coudes de la ma- nivelle ;

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"Pneumatic pressurized liquid engine systems." This invention relates to a mechanical motor and its object is to provide a reciprocating motor system, in which a liquid accumulated under pneumatic pressure in a suitable reservoir acts on one side of the piston.
Another object of this invention is to suppress in reciprocating motors the explosion of gas streams, thereby greatly simplifying their construction and saving heat by refrigeration.
And yet another object is to avoid the sudden jolts which occur in internal combustion engines; by replacing them with the smooth and uniform movement of a liquid subjected to pneumatic pressure.
The figures of the drawings accompanying the text serve to understand the invention. In these:
Figure 1 is an exterior front view of the engine.
Figure 2 is a top plan view, partly in section.

Figure 7 is a top plan view of the complete engine system.
This engine system consists of a closed tank
1 provided with a pressure gauge and a counterweight safety valve (not shown), in which a liquid such as water or oil is accumulated under pneumatic pressure or under the action of compressed air, this liquid being the agent which acts on one of the faces of the piston 2, adjusted by means of seal rings 2 'in a cylinder 3 in the body of the engine itself, this engine being similar to all internal combustion engines. reciprocating movement and consisting of several cylinders with piston rods coupled by connecting rods 4 to the same crank 5, by simply modifying the angle of coupling at the crank bends;

At the bottom of the cylindrical extension 21, a screw is threaded over the entire length of the latter, it serves as a stop for the valve 23 in its stroke ascending.
Under the lower face of the disc plate 14 is fixed the upper end of a helical spring 32 resting by its lower end on the upper face of the piston 18. The lower part of the cylinder 8 carries a side connection 33 close to it. of the horizontal partition 11, to this connection is fixed a tube 34, of relatively large cross section, communicating with the lower part of the tank 1 and on the same side of the upper part of the cylinder 8.

tal serving as a housing for the stopcock valve 37 provided on the outside with a handle 38 and having a transverse duct 39 and an opening 40 formed in the lateral duct wall. The axis lines of the duct 39 and of the opening 40 form an angle of 90 between them and from the outer side of the chapel of the valve 36 protrudes a fitting 41 connected by a tube 41 'of relatively narrow section to the part. upper tank 1.
The upper part of the valve chapel 36 is connected by a tubular elbow 42 to a horizontal tubular body 43 formed above the cylinder 3 and communicating with it, this body 43 being supported by a horizontal flange 44 to inside the cylinder 3 and assembled therewith by means of a bolt 45, the tubular body 45 having on either side of the cylinder 3 a conically shaped housing 46,47, both serving as housings for the male members of the two distribution valves 48 and 49 with horizontal axes and provided with a simple transverse path 50 are mounted on pivots, on ball patina at the ends of their rods or pins 51 and 52.
These spindles are provided with gear wheels 53 and 54 arranged on the same vertical plane and meshing with an intermediate vertical wheel 45 wedged on a horizontal inactive spindle 56, the three wheels 53, 54 and 55 are housed in a gear housing. - swims 57, the cover 57 'of which is removable, being fixed by screws 58, this casing extending downwards in order to allow two other intermediate gear wheels 59 and 60 to be housed therein, olavetées on the inactive horizontal pins 51 and 62, these intermediate wheels meshing with another wheel 63 fixed at one end of the crank 5 on the latter is fixed,

tube 72 connected to the upper part of the reservoir 1.
On the outside of the housing 57, the crank 5 is extended by coupling it with the shaft of a rotary pump 73 for the circulation of the liquid and whose casing is fixed by means of screws 64 at housing 57, the pump inlet being connected to a fitting 76 at the top of the lower section of cylinder 8 by means of a tube 75, preferably the fitting 76 is diametrically opposed to the fitting 33 and the impulse or exhaust tube of the pump 73 is connected by a tube 77 to a fitting 78, formed on one of the sides of the lower reduced extension 21 of the cylinder 8 and at a point which is very closer to the bottom of the extension 21.
The other end or tubular body 43 is connected by a tubular elbow 79 to a hollow body of conical shape 80, similar to the body 36 and serving as a housing for the plug of a valve 81 similar to the valve 37 described above; the chapel- the valve 80 is provided laterally with an opening or vent 82 and this chapel 80 is joined to a tubular elbow 83 fixed to its lower part and communicating by means of a tube 84 with the bottom of the tank 1.
The three tubes 34, 41 'and 72 are respectively provided with check valves 85, 86 and 87, in order to prevent the sudden reflux of the liquid from the reservoir 1 to the engine.
The upper and lower parts of cylinder 8 are fitted with tubes 88 and 89 opening into the atmosphere; tune 89 extends upwards over a height at least equal to the upper base of cylinder 8, in order to equalize the pressures at - above and below the piston 18.
The engine is supported by brackets 90, forming part of cylinder 8, on a suitable frame, such as, for example, the chassis of a vehicle.
The air compressions pump 70, instead of being controlled by the electric motor 68 with switch and electric power source not shown, can be driven by a windmill for a fixed installation where a such device
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
is employed.
The most suitable way of tuning the engine for its efficient operation is as follows; the plug of the stopcock 81 is placed with the handle 38 facing upwards (figure 1) intercepting the passage to the liquid (figure 5) but allowing free communication between the air intake
82 and the elbow 79, by moving the handle 38 by 90 to the left, the air inlet will close and the liquid will be able to circulate (figure 4) from the reservoir 1 to the elbow 79, the flow of the liquid occurring by the pneumatic pressure it experiences in tank 1.
The piston 2 being at the upper limit of its stroke, the valve plug 48 with its gear wheel
43 will mesh with the wheel 55, so that in the rotation of the crank 5 to the right, the stopcock 48 begins to. let the liquid flow until piston 2 has reached the bottom of its stroke.
At this instant, the impeller 54 of the valve 49 meshes with the intermediate wheel 55 so that in the rotation of the crank 5 to the right, the valve 49 begins to let the liquid flow towards the elbow 42 until that the piston 2 has again reached the upper part of its upward stroke, when the liquid outlet on the cylinder 3 is closed by the tap 49 and the inlet opened by the tap 48, thus form the two phases of the engine cylinder, one comprising the admission of the liquid into the cylinder 3 and the other outlet. In the first phase, the liquid is admitted into the cylinder 3 by pushing piston 2, downwards, and in the second phase the liquid is expelled from the cylinder by the piston 2 in its upstroke.
The tap 37, the handle 38 of which is directed upwards, will close the path of the liquid from the elbow 42 to the elbow 35 (figure 6) by placing the elbow 42 in its place in communication with the tube 41 'which leads to the reservoir 1 in rotating the stem of the valve 37 at an angle of 90 to the left, the communication between the elbow 42 and the tube 41 'will be closed to re-establish the path of the liquid between the elbows 42 and 35.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The operation of the motor is as follows; once the stop cocks 81 and 37 have been placed in the positions shown in figure 4, the start-up will be done quickly by starting the electric motor 68 connected to the crank 5 by the transmission. formed by the two toothed chain wheels 64 and 66 and the endless chain 65, and thanks to the gear transmission formed by the rock wheels 60,59,55,54 and 53, the liquid distribution valves 48 and 49 move according to the successive inclinations of the two faces of the piston, so that in the first phase, the valve 48 opens and the valve 49 closes, admitting the liquid from the reservoir 1, pushed by the pneumatic pressure exerted on the last one, towards cylinder 3,
inside which it pushes the piston 2 downwards until it attacks the bottom of its downstroke, when the exhaust valve 49 opens and the intake valve 48 closes, which pushes the liquid from cylinder 3 towards elbows 42 and 35 passing through the upper part of cylinder 8, when the plate valve is opened by its spring 32 fully relaxed, the liquid passing to the lower part of cylinder 8 through the valve opening 12 and by its own weight fills the cylinder 8 above the piston 18. The piston 18 is currently at the bottom of the cylinder 8 and the stop screw 31 closes the tubular valve 23.
By filling the cylinder 8 with liquid which arrives through the tube 75 to the inlet of the rotary pump 73 actuated by its crank 5, the pump will contain the liquid to pass through the tube 77 towards the bottom of the extension. lower gement 21 to cylinder 8, and this liquid will push rod 20 upwards with piston 18.
By compressing the spring 32 will move the valve to. plate 14 upwards until it closes the opening 23, and at this moment, the liquid which occupies the lower part of the cylinder 8 will return to the reservoir 1 through the tube 34, at the same moment when the piston 18 reaches the upper end of its upstroke, the tubular valve 23 colliding with the plate valve 14 and will be pushed downwards by opening the communication
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
between the upper part above the piston 18 and the lower part of the rod 20 as shown in figure 4.
At this moment the lower part of cylinder 8 empties of liquid, and as the rotary pump 73 no longer receives liquid from the tube 75, it ceases to function and the spring tension
32 pushes the piston 18 and its rod 20 downwards, until the cylinder 8 fills again with liquid during the next cycle of the engine and so on.
If, when starting the engine 73 to start the movement of the piston 2, the stop cocks 81 and 37 are kept in the positions indicated by Figures 1, 5 and 6, i.e. the path of the liquid from tank 1 being prevented and the air intake being open allowing atmospheric air to pass through the opening 82, then the engine will operate as an air compression pump which will compress the air in the section upper part of the tank 1, this being done when there is no air compression pump 70 or when the latter stops working, in order to maintain a suitable pneumatic pressure in the tank 1, so that the liquid can reach the motor driven by the pressure exerted on the reservoir 1, if the shutters 81 and 37 are completely closed,
starting the motor by means of the electric motor 68, it will be subjected to shocks due to the fact that it does not have an opening for the intake of air or the evacuation of liquid, shocks which may occur inside the cylinders.
It should be understood that the constructional details of the apparatus and its form can be varied at will without altering the essential character or features of this invention.
