 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Les   fi.   1 et 2 sont des coupes longitudinales de deux modes de fixation différents de la canne batteu- se dans sa douille ;
Fig.4 est une vue en plan de la fig. 3.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Threshing machine, with threshing rods
So that the threshing work, which has hitherto been done by hand using flexible rods, can be carried out mechanically, threshing machines have been established, which generally have a shaft driven by a movement of uniform rotation, and to which threshing straps are attached in an appropriate number. Attempts to have threshing work done by canes have so far failed, although for reasons of convenience canes have great advantages over thongs or threshing belts.

    Threshing machines with threshing rods have not been successful so far, because soon after they were put into service, the rods broke where they were attached to the shaft.

   The reason for the breakage of the threshing rods must be sought in the fact that at each oscillation these rods are subjected to strong bending, immediately behind their fixing member. This movement

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 must be carried out by jerks, because of the batting effect which it is necessary to obtain and consequently, these rods undergo, in this place, deformations such that the rupture must occur very quickly.

   To prevent these deformations, as far as possible, we have, according to the present invention, connected the threshing rods with their. fasteners by means of springs, so that the bending which inevitably occurs during each sudden swinging movement is absorbed by the spring, and the threshing rod gradually passes into the state of rest o. state of motion.

   It is further important that in such a threshing machine the threshing work is carried out as much as possible in the same way as when the rods are operated by hand, i.e. the cane is withdrawn from the work immediately after striking. This mode of operation is ensured in the object of the invention by the combination of the attachment point of the threshing rod with a spring acting in the opposite direction to the threshing action of the rod.

   The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. In this drawing:
The fi. 1 and 2 are longitudinal sections of two different methods of fixing the beater rod in its socket;
Fig. 3 is a side view of the main parts of the threshing machine mechanism, and
Fig.4 is a plan view of fig. 3.

   The threshing rod a is elastically connected to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 the corresponding bush b and this elastic connection can, as shown in FIG. 1, be for example effected by means of coil springs d, which are threaded on top of each other in order to obtain progressive reinforcement. The same connection can be made using flat springs d '(see figure 2).

   In order to spare this elastic connection itself, an articulation i can be inserted between the oscillating arm ± and the bush b, so that during a sudden oscillation of the arm g, there is first a flexion of the joint i and only then a training of the cane a. In this case, a second arm must go from the oscillating arm g, via the spring f, to the sleeve b, so that the latter is obliged to communicate to the rod a the movement. required (see fig. 3).

   Instead of the push cams generally in use and which work in a noisy manner, the swinging arms ± are driven by means of friction discs, ie the ± arm is connected to a disc of friction h, which is located in front of a friction disc h ', the periphery of which is only partially provided with a protruding friction lining k, so that the force of the rotation of the disc h depends length of the lining k, and that it is therefore possible, by replacing this lining k or by making it adjustable, to vary the oscillation force of the arms g, which naturally has the effect of modifying corresponding threshing effect.

   In the opposite direction, that is to say in the direction of the blow, the ± arm is moved by the tension spring m.

  A torsion spring threaded over the axis n of the dis-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 that h, and fixed by one of its ends to the disc h and by the other end to the bearing t, serves to absorb the blow and to detach the beating organs from the work immediately after the blow is given.

   That said, I declare to consider as being of my invention and to claim:
1 .- A threshing machine, with beating rods, characterized in that the rods are connected to the fixing member or sleeve (b) by means of springs (d, d ').

   2 .- A threshing machine, with threshing rods, according to 1, characterized in that between the oscillating arm and the bush (b) is arranged a bending point (i), and in that the bush (b) is also connected to the oscillating arm (g) through the arm (g ') and the spring (f).

   3 .- A threshing machine, with threshing rods, according to 1, characterized in that the oscillating arms (g) are driven by means of friction discs (h, h '), the disc (h') of which is animated of a uniform rotational movement, is provided, on part of its periphery, with a protruding lining (k), and which may be. arranged in a movable or removable manner.

   4 .- A beating machine, with beating rods, according to 1, characterized in that the disc (h) receives, after each blow, an appropriate recoil movement by means of a torsion spring (p) .
