BRTI: V '! 5T D' I17V: IT TI ON Electrical installation for gas purification.
In recent times, high-voltage direct current is used almost exclusively to generate the burst field in electrical gas cleaning plants, which is drawn from high-voltage alternating current by means of rectifiers. Hitherto, incandescent cathode rectifiers and above all mechanical rectifiers have been used as rectifiers. Both of these types of rectifiers are expensive to manufacture and need careful monitoring during operation. Now, the object of the present invention is a device for producing high-voltage direct current used in electrical gas purification installations, a device of simple and economical construction and perfectly safe operation.
According to the invention, the rectifier for the production of high-voltage direct current for the supply of electrical gas cleaning plants consists of a series of bodies made of metal and a metal compound. @

electrical conductor., body alternating in order of succession and being in intimate electrical contact. This metallic compound is preferably a metallic oxide formed on the metallic body. A particularly good effect is obtained when coupling alternating copper bodies and copper oxide bodies in successive series.
The figure of the attached drawing represents an example of execution of the invention. 1 designates a copper plate.
On this plate is a thin layer 2 which consists of cuprous oxide. Several rectifying elements of this kind are superimposed. The lower plate is connected by conductor 3 to one pole of the AC source, and the higher plate is connected by conductor 4, passing through the gas cleaning chamber, to the other pole from the alternating current source. Each cell is approximately sufficient for rectifying a voltage of 50 volts and is also completely sufficient for the currents used in electrical gas cleaning systems. By superimposing a corresponding number of plates, the current of about 50,000 volts used for gas cleaning can therefore be straightened without difficulty.
