<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Company known as: "Osa" Participations Industriels Soc. An, in Schaffhausen (Switzerland) Electric incandescent lamp, filled with gas for high intensity.
In the incandescent electric lamp for high intensities, described in the main patent, a lamp in which a current of inert gas is constantly maintained in the removable bulb, the resistance of this bulb to rupture is appreciably increased by the elimination of individual welds and. it is also possible to replace the light body. However, replacing a defective light body in a working lamp takes a rather long time, since it is not only necessary to remove the hen and put it back in.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
place, as well as fix the lighting body, it is also necessary to sweep with filling gas the new pressurized installation.
In order to be able to appreciably reduce the extremely troublesome loss of time which the replacement of the illuminating body entails, for example when the lamp is used in cinematographic representations, according to the present invention, it is mounted inside the removable bulb. , a movable support for the spare lighting body, a support which protrudes outside.
When the normal illuminating body of the lamp is damaged or burnt out, it is possible, without removing the bulb and without interrupting the gas flow, to replace this burnt illuminating body with the spare illuminating body by putting sLm- Rather in action the support thereof inside the bulb in a rational position for the emission of light. As the fitting of the replacement lighting body holder only takes a few moments, the continuous operation of the lamp is only interrupted, when a lighting body is burned, only for a very short time and which goes completely unnoticed.
The fact that it is possible to quickly replace the burnt illuminating body with a new one also makes it possible to push the illuminating body which operates in each case considerably more than in other conditions, and consequently to considerably increase the efficiency. luminous lamp.
So that the replacement of the burnt out or defective lighting body takes place quickly, this lighting body is preferably freely suspended in a known manner from the conductors of the lamp and the new mobile support of the replacement lighting body is provided with members, for example. protrusions in the form of pins, to remove by sliding the illuminating body which is burnt.

As in the main patent, the lamp consists essentially of a base body ¯µ¯, a removable bulb h, two conductors in the form of uprights c, d and the lighting body carried by these conductors.
In this case, however, the bulb is not screwed in by; =: an open neck in a part forming a socket on the base body, it is firmly supported by means of springs p on a rubber washer embedded in the base body . The bottom body ja consists of two semi-cylindrical parts a1, a2 separated one from
3 the other by an insulating layer a, for example a layer of mica and held against each other by insulating rings a4, for example fiber rings, mounted around them. Each half of the bottom body carries a terminal q1, q2 (fig. 2) for the arrival of the current, so that the whole bottom body is a conductor and that it brings the current to the conductors c, d, of the lighting body, conductors which are in the form of uprights and screwed into the back body.
A tube k opens into the bottom body in the extension of the conductor d and serves to bring in the inert filling gas which constantly passes through the lamp during operation. This gas enters the bulb h of the lamp at the upper end.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
re open of the conductor d, which is constituted by a tube, and it leaves constantly through a hole r made in the conductor c, also constituted by a tube, but closed. at the top, and by a tube o mounted in the extension of this conductor.
The lighting body is freely suspended from the conductors c, d in the form of uprights. To this end, in the example shown, the conductors carry hooks s with an adjustable position and the illuminating body comprises two hooks s' preferably bent in two opposite directions. This method of suspending the illuminating body also ensures good contact between the conductors and the illuminating body, so that the lamp can be exposed without risk to tremors such as those produced, for example, by the motor of a lighting device. cinematographic projection.
A support intended for a replacement lighting body] 3 'passes, through an insulating and hermetic seal, between the two conductors c, d passing through the base body a in the axis * the bulb h and the luminous body ¯g freely suspended. This support consists of a cylindrical rod t, at the upper end of which is a metal cup t ', used to house the spare lighting body g'. The rod t slides in a part i insulating u and in a cable gland u2 mounted in this part and adjustable by means of a nut u '. The metal cup t 'is preferably perforated where it has at least a small opening at the bottom, so that no harmful air remains in the cup when the lamp is in operation.
Enter the metal cup! ' and the bottom body ¯a or the adjusting nut u 'of the cable gland u2 is an insulating washer v freely surrounding the rod t and preventing particles falling from the body
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
lighting to remain astride the insulating slot between the halves a1, a2 of the bottom body and thus cause short circuits. An elastic bracket v 'carrying a mica or metal plate v2 which overhangs the lighting body is fixed to the insulating washer v. The -claque v2 prevents particles falling from the illuminator from damaging and adhering to the replacement illuminant g '.
Finally, the metal cup t 'comprises on its upper edge a protrusion 12 in the form of a lug or several protrusions of this kind, which allow the illuminating body to be removed from the support hooks s of the conductors when it is burnt.
When the strongly pushed light body is damaged or burned, the operator pushes the rod t upwards, the elastically held guard plate.,! 2 being held apart by the hooks S1 of the spare light body g '. When the rod t has almost reached the top of its travel, it is rotated slightly so that the free vertical branches of the replacement lighting body engage in the slot separating the hooks ¯µ¯ from the conductors, until the brackets s are located a little above the brackets s. The rotation of the rod t as well as its upward movement simultaneously have the effect that the lug t2 abuts against the parts of the illuminating body remaining suspended from the hook and causes them to fall.
Once this is done, the rod t is rotated to return it to its normal position and it is lowered% until the hooks s' of the replacement lighting body catch on the hooks s of the conductors. The replacement lighting body is thus brought exactly to the place of the lighting body used previously.
It is therefore not necessary to specifically orient the spare lighting body, par. example relating to
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
condenser of the projection optics.
The free suspension of the illuminating body from the post-shaped conductors can also undergo various modifications, as can the shape of the movable support of the replacement lighting body, which support can be operated from the outside. The support can be guided for example in the top of the bulb of the lamp, instead of being in the bottom body.
Instead of a rectilinear movement, the support can also perform a pivoting movement for the installation of the replacement lighting body.
