<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Pour utiliser ce phénomène aux fins de la présente invention, on munit le moteur syn- chrone qui fait tourner le système des balais tournants avec les anneaux tournants qui y sont reliés, d'un frein dont l'action puisse être réglée ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

REQUEST FILED @ "Device for regulating the commutation in transformers of alternating electric currents into direct current and vice versa"
The present invention relates to improvements to transformers of alternating electric currents into direct current (or
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
reciprocally) of the type of those in which there is a fixed collector, to which are connected alternating electro-motive forces of various phases, a system of brushes driven by a synchronous motor and thundering against said fixed collector, this system of rotating brushes being connected to two contact rings rotating with it, rings from which two fixed brushes collect (or to which they transmit) the rectified current.
In these transformers, at the same time as the electric charge varies, the relative position of the rotating brushes with respect to. the neutral zone rotating on the collector, in the same way as, in the old dynamos, without auxiliary blades, one must move the system of the fixed brushes in relation to the fixed magnetic field in order to obtain a good switching .
According to the present invention, it is possible to obtain the switching adjustment by using the known fact that, in a synchronous motor, the angular position of the rotor (inductor) with respect to the magnetic field of the stator varies according to the variation of the mechanical work. performed by the engine, and, precisely, when the work
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
mechanical increase, there is a displacement of the rotor backwards, i.e. in the opposite direction to that of the rotation,
In order to use this phenomenon for the purposes of the present invention, the synchronous motor which turns the rotating brush system with the rotating rings connected to it is provided with a brake whose action can be regulated;
if the action of this brake varies in the same direction as the variations of the load, the switching plane moves in a corresponding way and, therefore, the switching itself can be regulated.
The brake adjustment could be done even by hand, but it can be done automatically in many different ways.
The three figures of the attached drawing show schematically, at. by way of example, three different arrangements for obtaining this automatic adjustment.
In fig. 1 is shown an electromagnet -e-, able to move in the only direction of the axis -aa-, and whose windings are interposed in series in the circuit -c- of the confined current. Its polar expansions s' support more
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
or less strongly against the edge of an iron disc-d- rotating at the same time as the axis -o- of the synchronous motor, the adhesion increasing or decreasing according to the increase or decrease of the current in the circuit -vs-.
In the embodiment of FIG. 2, the electromagnet -s- whose winding -c- is always placed in series on the direct current circuit, is arranged so that, between its polar expansions turns a copper disc -d-, rotating at the same time than the -o- axis of the synchronous motor and in which it induces electric currents. The mutual action between the electromagnet and the copper disk increases with the increase in the intensity of the direct current.
In the embodiment of FIG. 3, contributes, at the same time as the synchronous motor -s-, to rotate the system of rotating brushes and rings, a direct current motor -m- with bypass excitation -p- in which the direct current is sent. coming from the -x- rings. The excitation of this motor is adjusted so that at. empty, i.e. when
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
there is no electric charge, the mechanical work is done almost entirely by the direct current motor, and the synchronous motor only has the task of maintaining synchronism.
When the electric charge increases, a few turns of an excitation in series -q- placed in the circuit -c- of the direct current contribute to reinforce the field of the direct current motor, which will be relieved of the mechanical work which goes, on the contrary, charge the synchronous motor.
It is obvious that the whole of the synchronous motor -s- and of the direct current motor -m- constitutes precisely a synchronous motor-dynamo certifier group and can, consequently, be replaced by an opener of this kind.
