Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

    Air heater at the expense of burnt gases from alandier ovens.

   This invention relates to an air heater using the burnt gases from the hearths of ceramic ovens called alandier ovens.

   This apparatus differs essentially from those of the type already known, by the fact that the elements which constitute it divide the gas stream into multiple threads above the dome of the furnace and also by the fact that the elements constituting the the whole heater are made of different materials, chosen so that the resistance of the elements to variations in temperature is greater at the beginning of the course of the gases than at the end of their stroke.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 deformation of the elements while facilitating the exchange of temperatures as much as possible.

   In the practical embodiment of the invention a tube bundle is placed above the dome of the furnace so as to leave the flue gases no other outlet than the passage of the tubes, all the other outlets being closed by means of a material practically insensitive to variations in temperature. Fresh air inlet openings and heated air outlet openings are arranged around the tube bundle so as to effect the methodical heating, which is, as is usual knows, the most favorable to an exchange of temperatures.

   The entire heater can be housed entirely in the masonry hood of the oven or partly in this hood and partly in the chimney. In the latter case, the. part housed in the chimney may emerge, if it is necessary to increase the outlet speed of the burnt air.

   The drawing opposite shows, by way of example, a vertical section of a heater established according to the invention.

   In this drawing, A represents the chamber in which the combustion gases accumulate.

   It is closed at. its ceiling by a diaphragm B in a material eminently resistant to heat and to temperature variations. The ends of the tubes 0 of the tube bundle are embedded in the material of this diaphragm, so that their orifices are protected against the action of the flame. Tube plates D constantly cooled by the air to be heated keep the tubes at the prescribed distance. The air chamber to be heated is limited around the perimeter and above by an insulating material casing The top is additionally protected by a waterproof coating.

   The air to be heated enters through ports F and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 hot out through other openings G which open into a circular duct from which they are sucked to be directed towards the places of use.

   The heating therefore takes place against the current.

   One of the characteristics of the system is that it allows the heat transfer coefficient of the burnt air to be varied to the fresh air, by blocking a certain number of tubes so as to force the flow speed in the others. It is known, in fact, that in the case of the transmission of heat from gas to air via a metal wall, the coefficient increases considerably with the speed.

   A cap H makes it possible to regulate the outlet speed of the burnt air and the projecting parts of the tubes are effectively protected against oxidation by means of a special coating, in the event that the tube bundle is not not completely enclosed in the masonry hood. The cap is carried by a pivoting shaft to provide access to the tubes for sweeping if necessary.

   One of the advantages of the system is that it is possible to use, in the same appliance, the cooling air up to the temperature required for drying the products or for heating the premises. The waste heat can also be used from that the oven is at low heat, without having to take into account the temperature required for the chimney draft, as is the case for the exchangers which are housed in the flues.

   Summary.
