<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Tedder Fork"
The tedder forks are the ones which in this type of machine are the most subject to wear, and must therefore be replaced often.
This great wear is due almost exclusively to the poor design of the method of fixing the tines to the handle or tine-holder tube: @
In certain known constructions, this drawback had been overcome by not fixing the teeth directly on the handle $ but on an intermediate piece hinged on the tine tube. This solution
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
has the big one. disadvantage of postponing to the end of the forks! relatively large masses.
As a result of the high speed of the movement of the forks, great inertia forces arise which adversely affect the proper functioning of the machine.
1,. 'The object of the present invention is to eliminate these causes of wear without weighing down the fork $ and while retaining the qualities of simplicity and rusticity which are characteristic of agricultural machines:
This is achieved by giving the forks a special shape as well as their bolted attachment binoculars. on the tube.
The teeth are formed in the usual way by bent steel wires and are made integral by a special stamped sheet metal part in which they are clamped by a bolt fitted with a nut, Locking, once completed, a tab is raised of sheet metal provided in the ring piece% ion, and this tab coming to rest against the 'nut,' makes any unlocking impossible. Unlocking could also be made impossible by the use of a Grower washer or by any other means.
The articulation allowing the pivoting movement of the teeth backwards is made @@@ around the par.-,
Straight ties provided on the outer teeth which are inserted into the specially shaped holes of two tooth holders fixed to the tube by two bolts. These tooth holders carry stops on which comes to press the posterior part of the junction piece of the teeth, under the action of the spring.
This appears on the set of teeth by
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
It is through a rod hooked to one end of the spring and to the other in a loop formed by the inner teeth.
The invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which
Fig.1 is a front view of the tedder fork which is the subject of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a section along AB (fig.1).
Fig. 3 is an interior view of a tooth holder *
As usual, the fork consists of two main parts: namely, the handle or tine-holder tube, and the tines themselves. the upper part of the fourohe does not differ in any way from those already known and bears the various usual organs.
The teeth are arranged at the lower part of the handle l @] La. fork shown in the drawing has four teeth. A suitably bent steel wire 2 constituting the outer teeth 3 and a second suitably bent steel wire 4 constituting the inner teeth 5.
These two folded steel wires, that is to say the teeth, are joined together by a special part 6, in stamped sheet metal, exactly matching the shape of the teeth towards the clamped part. The whole is securely held by a bou - Ion 7 crossing the whole. This bolt is fitted with a nut 8.
After locking, we raised the sheet metal tongue 9 cut in the junction piece 6, and it is applied to the side of the nut. ' This rules out any possibility of loosening and by. therefore any possibility of wire wear
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
by rubbing against each other.
Loosening could also be prevented by the use of a Grower washer or by any other equivalent means - So that the teeth can pivot on the handle, the bending shape of the steel wire 2 constituting the outer teeth. 3 is such that these carry at the upper end 2 straight parts forming journals which can rotate in the appropriate seats of two support parts 10 and 11. boulennées on the handle 1.
These staves have a special shape designed to allow easy installation of the two supports 10 and 11 on the fork before bolting them to the sleeve 1.
Grease holes 12 allow the introduction of oil to lubricate these journals.
To limit the pivoting movement of the Avant, the two supports 10 and 11 carry abutments 13 on which the rear face of the part 6 rests.
The teeth are subjected, as in all tedders, to the action of a spring 14 which allows them to pivot when they are subjected to an exaggerated force.
For this purpose, the steel wire 4 constituting the internal teeth 5 is bent so that it presents at the upper part a loop which receives the end of the rod 15 transmitting the action of the spring 14.
This rod 15 working in extension can be as long as desired, which makes it possible to place the spring at the upper part of the log, and consequently., 'To release it from contact with the hay,
