<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

A method of manufacturing ribbons furnished with cord for closures opening by tearing.
The tapes serving as support for the elements of the tear-opening closing devices are provided, on a longitudinal edge, with a bulge on which the closing elements are applied. This bulge is formed, in general, by two separate loops sewn with tape. If we take the braid and the ribbon of the same length and if we then sew the ribbon to an effect of clothing etc. , the two rows of closing elements to be closed by the passer - by diverge, and the passer - by moves with great difficulty. To overcome this drawback, it has already been proposed, in German patent No.325.390, to choose the straps shorter than the ribbons.
But it then occurs during the sewing of the loops, on the part of the ribbon which they must garnish, small folds which must

cross the passer-by. The mobility of the passer-by is thus also reduced. Added to this is the fact that, in this case, as the tape and the straps represent organically independent elements due to the fact that they are joined by stitching, the straps are, when the closure elements are fixed, the only ones stressed. But the loops have only their prime length and a corresponding consistency. The loops would already have a greater value as a supporting element, on the one hand, if one could manage to increase their consistency. It then appears desirable to involve the tape itself as a support for the closure elements.
But we cannot, in this, reduce the mobility of the passer-by; it would therefore be necessary in particular, on the one hand, to avoid the drawback, mentioned above, of the formation of folds in the tape in the vicinity of the bulge and, on the other hand, the rows of closing elements - re should converge towards each other.
The problem thus posed is solved, according to the invention, on the one hand owing to the fact that the ribbon and the cord are woven together, so as to be united organically: On the other hand, the loops and usefully also the loops. The ru-ban's adjacent warp threads are specially drawn during weaving. If the loops are manufactured in the form of tubular fabrics with special insert threads, both insert threads and wrapping threads must be subjected to the drawing operation. Similarly, the bulge should, if it consists of a solid fabric, be stretched in its entirety.
By this stretching, a greater consistency is obtained inside the loops or, for the same consistency, the circumference is reduced, which is also advantageous for the fixing of the closure elements. The consistency is further increased, when the stretching operation ceases, by the contraction which then occurs. But at the same time, as a result of this contraction, the desired rounding of the ribbon is obtained, that is to say
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
say the convergence of the edges of the ribbon trimmed with braid.
The joining of the tape and the bulge by weaving and drawing is therefore essential for the manufacturing process according to the invention, i.e. for the greater resistance force of the bulge, as well as for obtaining rounding. If this could not be obtained to a sufficient extent by the stretching operation, it would still be possible to have recourse to stretching of the parts of the tapes remote from the bulge, in the finished fabric, for example by winding on tapered rollers. .
