<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Figure 1 est une vue schématique, donnée à titre comparatif, montrant le mode de commande actuel des couteaux par plateau-ma- nivelle à mouvement de rotation continue ;
Figure 2 est une vue en élévation d'une commande du genre ac- tuellement employé, perfectionnée selon 1'invention ;

"Improvements to dobby and in particular to those of the Nuyts and similar genres"
The invention relates to weaving mechanisms or dobby weaving looms, and more particularly relates to those of the Nuyts and similar kinds, which comprise a series of hooks of particular shape, engaging one or the other of two. claws or knives, depending on the action exerted on said hooks by a series of needles controlled by boxes.
It is known that, in currently existing dobbies of this type, the reciprocating movement of the knives in their vertical plane is obtained by a control comprising, as shown schematically in FIG. 1 given for comparison, a commando crank plate 1 driven by a continuous rotational movement, and actuating the knives 2 and 2 'of the dobby by 1' via connecting rods 3 and 3 ', said plate 1 being wedged on a shaft 4 receiving a continuous rotational movement of the crankshaft at by means of appropriate transmission devices.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It has been recognized that this mode of controlling the knives presents, in all cases, numerous drawbacks, due to the continuous rotational movement of the control plate 1, even when, in order to slow down the movement of the blades during the passage of the shuttle through the shed, the movement of plate 1 is alternately accelerated and slowed down, using, for its control, a set of eccentric pinions.
Indeed, in all cases the continuous rotational movement of the plate inevitably results in opening of the pitch for too short a time, which causes a difficult passage of the shuttle in the crowd, requires a violent hunt, because of the not closes on the shuttle before it is returned in its box, and causes a "lardage" or passage of the pick through the threads and frequent breakage of the threads at the edges, the shuttle rubbing on these threads, thus that-forming loops at the strings, the pitch not staying open long enough for the pick to extend fully.
In addition, the continuous rotational movement of the plate controlling the knives, makes it impossible to weave in a crossed pitch, which most often results in obtaining fabrics with a bad touch, unpleasant appearance and. in which the teeth of the comb leave traces, other drawbacks residing in the high tension of the chain and in the great difficulties encountered in the use of wefts of large numbers and of high weights, the pick coming back to back after the blow of the clapper clamped it in the fabric.
The object of the invention is to obviate the above-mentioned drawbacks of these types of dobby, so as to make it possible to keep the pitch open as long as desired and to adjust the opening movements at will. and the closure, as well as to cross-weave, and its purpose, for this

indeed, improvements, easily applicable to existing dobby, and oonsistant, in principle, to animate the control plate, the knives of the dobby, no longer with a continuous rotational movement but with an alternating circular movement.
In order to make the invention fully understood, and by way of example of an embodiment, one embodiment thereof is described below and shown diagrammatically in the drawings appended to this Descriptive Memorandum, in which:
Figure 1 is a schematic view, given for comparison, showing the current mode of control of the knives by plate-leveling with continuous rotational movement;
Figure 2 is an elevational view of a control of the kind currently employed, improved in accordance with the invention;
Figure 3, being an end view of said improved control,
Solving these figures, 1 is the plate, wedged on a shaft 4 and controlling, by means of the connecting rods 3 and 3 ', the knives 2 and 2' in turn actuating the hook 5 determining the movement of the blades.
According to the invention, the control plate 1 is driven by an alternating circular movement carried out, for example, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. In these figures, which show a current Nuyts type dobby simply transformed according to the invention, 6 is a shaft mounted in a support 7 oomman to the shaft 4, said shaft 6 receiving a continuous rotational movement by pinion 8 and ohafne 9 of the crankshaft of the loom.
On the shaft 6 is wedged an eccentric 10 groove or groove 11 inside laqaelle moves a finger or roller pin 12 of a crank 13 spread on the shaft 4, which is thus animated by a reciprocating circular movement, variable according to the path of the eccentric groove, said movement being transformed and transmitted to the blades by means of the connecting rods 3, 3 ', the knives 2, 2' and the hook 5
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
@ 14 represents the usual control eccentriqae of the cardboard cylinder.
It is easy to see that, thanks to this device for controlling the blades, it is possible, by suitably determining the path of the eccentric, to keep the pitch open as long as desired and to open and close it at will, and, to pre - ference in a uniformly accelerated movement at the beginning, then uniformly delayed at the end. In addition the movement of the blades can be easily changed by a simple chan ,,. eccentric management 10.
