 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

    Improvements to sowing machines.

   This invention relates to sowing machines of the type described by the main patent and more especially to the device for lifting the coulters employed in these machines.

   As is apparent from the main patent in machines of this kind the rotational movement of the distributing valves and of the paddles is controlled by a participating pinion.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 to the rotation of the wheels of the machined pinion which attacks a toothed wheel rotating freely on a journal of an osoilant lever carried by a cast iron part whose position is controlled by the lever for lowering the coulters.

   This toothed wheel is engaged according to the position given to the oscillating lever, either with the control pinion and with a pinion mounted on the axis of the distribution valves, or with the control pinion and with a mounted auxiliary toothed wheel. by a second oscillating lever on the cast iron part and the position of which is itself controlled by the first oscillating lever, this auxiliary toothed wheel transmitting in this case an inverse rotational movement to the pinion mounted on the axis of the distribution valves .

   When raising the distribution soos, the control mechanism of the distribution valves and the pallets automatically disengages.

   It has been observed when using this construction that the lifting of the distribution sooa constitutes a difficult and painful maneuver due to the fact that all the soos are lifted at one time, which in the case of sowing machines of large model requires an exaggerated muscular expenditure due to the great weight to be lifted.

   The aim of the present invention is to remedy this disadvantage.

   For this purpose it is characterized essentially by the fact that the coulters can be lifted in two or more times by a single operation of the control lever. In the practical embodiment of the invention, for example half of the total number of distribution soos is controlled by a tube surrounding a shaft running from one side of the sowing machine to the other, and this shaft itself controls the other half of the number of distributor coulters through its uncovered part.

   This tube and this shaft each carry at their end situated on the same side of the machine a toothed wheel meshing with a toothed pinion. / The two toothed pinions are lying idle on an intermediate shaft and are attached.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 qués successively by two toothed sectors mounted on a disc controlled by the lever for raising the coulters, a disc which also controls the clutch and disengagement device of the mechanism deorit from the main patent.

   The accompanying drawing shows by way of example a practical embodiment of the coulter lift control system according to the invention.

   Figure 1 shows in plan and in partial section the mode of attachment of the soos on the shaft and the control tube and the arrangement of the gears of the control system for raising and lowering these soos.

   FIG. 2 is a side view of FIG. 1 showing in elevation the arrangement of the sectors and toothed gears and schematically indicating the device for clutching and disengaging the mechanism described in the main patent.

   Figure 3 shows in section the way in which the support arms of the coulter suspension shaft are fixed to the control tube.

   In these figures, the control winch deorit in the main patent is composed, as above, of a cast iron part 1 mounted on an axis 2 on which it can pivot freely. It itself carries an axis 3 around which a second cast iron part 4 pivots. This part 4 is provided with a lug 5 which slides in a groove 6 of part 1. It also carries an axle 7 on which a gear 8 rotates freely. The part 1 carries a journal 9 on which freely pivots a lever with two branches 10. One of these branches is guided by a lug 11 in a groove of the part 4. The other branch carries a toothed pinion 12 which rotates freely on its axis.

   The control shaft 13 of the distributors carries two gears 14 and 15, one of which 14 can be engaged either with the gear 8 or with the toothed pinion 12 to thus obtain the two directions / of rotation.

   The order of the different gold coins) 1 winch is made

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 by the toothed pinion 16 participating in the rotation of the traction wheels which turn on the rockets 17.

   The cast iron part 1 also carries an arm 18 which serves to engage or disengage the mechanism by moving the lever for raising and lowering the distribution coulters.

   This arm 18 has in the present case a horizontal part 19 and has on the one hand a groove 20 and on the other hand xxx a notch 21. It is attacked by the device for raising and lowering the coulters. distribution, object of the present invention.

   The distribution coulters (not shown in the attached drawing) which were suspended from a single axis controlled by the lever 22 as has been seen in the main patent, are suspended in this case by half from the two shafts of suspension 23 and 24. The shaft 23 is maintained and controlled by arms 25 fixed to the uncovered part of a control shaft 26. The shaft 24 is controlled by arms 27 fixed on the other hand to a tube. control 28 partially surrounding the
29 control 26. This fixing takes place by means of two tenons / located inside the ends 30 of the arms 27 and which are engaged in corresponding grooves of the tube 28 as is clearly shown. in figure 3.

   The shaft 26 is held on the one hand in a support 31 fixed to one of the side members 32 of the frame of the machine and on the other hand rests in the tube 28 which rotates in a bearing 33 fixed to the other side member 34 of the chassis. The shaft 26 is still supported in its middle by a bearing 35 mounted at the end of a chair 36 fixed at a point of the frame 37 (for example a cross member).

   A toothed pinion 38 is mounted on the end of the tube 28 on the outside of the side member 34. Another toothed pinion 39 is also fixed on the shaft 26 slightly extended beyond the pinion 38. These two pinions 38 and 39 mesh with two toothed wheels 40 and 41 mounted idly on a shaft 42 fixed to the side member 34.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   These toothed wheels are identical, but one, the wheel 41 carries a small roller 43 which slightly exceeds the head of the teeth and which is mounted on a small axis 44 in the body of a tooth itself.

   Below these two toothed wheels, is mounted on a shaft 45, a disc 46 carries a toothed sector 47 (Figure 2) meshing with the toothed wheel 41 and a segment 48 attached to one of these faoes, bearing a toothed sector 49 which meshes with the toothed wheel 41. Between the two sectors 47 and 49 there is provided a small notch 50.

   Between the toothed sectors 47 and 49 as well as between the toothed wheels 40 and 41 and the toothed pinions 38 and 39 there is a free space in which passes the control arm 18 of the clutch and release device of the described mechanism. to the main patent. This arm as seen above has in the present case a horizontal part 19 which bears on the smooth part 51 of the segment attached to the disc 46 and has on the one hand a groove 20 which embraces the shaft 42 and on the other hand a notch 21 in which its accommodates a lug 52 mounted on the shaft 26.

   The disc 46 is set in motion by the control lever 22 positioned on the shaft 45.

   This device thus described operates as follows:
When, in order to lift the coulters and disengage the mechanism as explained in the main patent, the lever 22 is moved in the direction indicated by the arrow 53, the disc 46 is driven in the direction of the arrow 54 and the toothed sector 47 drives the toothed wheel 41 in the direction of arrow 55 which has the effect of rotating the pinion 39 according to the arrow 56 and consequently the shaft 26 which, by means of the arms 25 lifts the coulters attached to the suspension shaft 23.

   During this movement the lug 52 serving to align the mechanism in the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 sition of use of the coulters, and to maintain the control gears of the sowing machine in their clutch position, rose and released the end of the control arm 18. This arm then also rises by the action of the smooth part 51 of the segment 48 acting on the lower part 19 of this arm which in its lifting movement is guided by the groove 20 on the shaft 42.

   When the sector 47 has reached the end of its oour, the roller 43 engages in the notch 50 and can in this way exceed the internal position it occupies at this time.

  During the continuation of the rotational movement of the disc 46, this roller 43 rolls on the smooth part of the disc and can no longer go backwards, which has the effect of keeping the coulters suspended from the shaft 23 up.

   When the wheel 43 has left the notch 50 to roll on the disc 46, the sector 49 engages with the toothed wheel 40 which drives the pinion 38 and therefore the tube 28 in the direction of arrow 56. As a result of this movement, the tube 28 lifts, by means of the arms 27, the second half of the coulters suspended from the shaft 24.

   The end of the arm 18 which has reached the limit of its travel when the sector 49 has engaged with the toothed wheel 40, is held in this position by the sliding of the face 19 on the part. smooth of segment 48. The raised position of arm 18 corresponds to the disengaged position of the sowing machine control mechanism.

   When all the coulters are raised, the lever 22 is moved to the position which it then occupies by any suitable means.

   Obviously, the coulters could also be lifted three or four times. It would suffice for this purpose to add to the disk a third sector offset with respect to the second sector in the same way as the current sector 49 is by

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 with respect to sector 47. This third seoteur would mesh with a third toothed wheel which would itself attack a toothed pinion geared onto a second tube carrying a third coulter suspension shaft by means of arms. The above-described device makes it possible, with a normal force, to raise by a single operation of the control lever all the soos of the same machine to be sown while acting at the same time on the disengagement of the mechanism.
