Q2 est la quantité de chaleur utilisée dans l'installa- tion de chauffage central;
Tl est la température absolue de la vapeur à la, sortie de la. chaudière;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
' D'autre part, l'installation de "soutirage" ne fonc- tionnerait à pleine charge que quelques heures par jour.
Dans l'utilisation de dispositifs connus, permet- tant de transformer le courant continu de la batterie en un cou- rant de forme,ou de tension, quelconques, répondant aux désidé- rata. de l'utilisation courante, ou vice versa; dans l'utilisation du courant d'un "secteur" pour recharger la batterie dans le cas de non fonctionnement de l'ins- 'tallation de chauffage central, ou en cas de fonctionnement in- suffisant;

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
Les appareils placés sur le tableau 21 sont connus en eux-mêmes, et ne demandent aucune description spéciale, ce sont un conjoncteur-disjoncteur 26; un régulateur de tension 27; un relais 28, permettant la recharge de la batterie par un autre moyen que celui de la dynamo 19. Ce relais 28 permettra, par exem- ple, si 23 est un secteur à courant continu, de recharger la bat- terie 22, par le courant dudit secteur 23, en cas d'arrêt de la dynamo 19;
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
Dans ces cas spéciaux, on adjoindra à l'installation troiscommutateurs, de préférence automatiques, tels que: le com- mutateur 42, charger d'isoler du reste du secteur, la partie à a- limenter en courant continu;
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
Le tout étant agencé comme il vient d'être dit, le fonc- tionnement de l'installation de régulation de la vitesse est le suivant ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
Dans ces conditions, on obtient un règlage instantané et parfait de la vitesse,entre deux limites.aussi rapprochées qu'on le désire, ce qui est très important dans le cas de pro- duction de courant alternatif, à cause de la nécessité de mainte- nir la fréquence constanteo On pourra ajouter un volant sur l'ar- bre de la turbine afin d'éviter les variations trop brusques de sa vitesse*;
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
re,toutes les variantes,, notamment:
la disposition qui consis- te à n'utiliser qu'un nombre juste suffisant d'éléments d'accu- mulateurs au plomb pour obtenir la, tension d'alimentation lors- que chaque élément donne deux volts -- les différences, en plus ou en moins, étant produites par une même dynamo auxiliaire a- gissant comme survolteur-dévolteur, et faisant continuellement "l'appoint" de tension, soit qu'il faille augmenter la tension du secteur pour la. recharge de là batterie, soit qu'il faille augmenter la tension de décharge de la batterie pour l'alimen talion du secteur,;

"IMPROVEMENTS FOR CENTRAL HEATING INSTALLATIONS" (II)
On the other hand, it has been proposed to "extract" energy (in mechanical form) from central heating installations in which the boiler water has a temperature greater than one hundred degrees centigrade. But in the latter case, the instantaneous power developed and available has always been used immediately.
This special condition results in serious disadvantages in the economy of these installations, among others: a) the value of the instantaneous power available is variable, because it depends on the power expended in the installation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
central heating installation b / The maximum values of the instantaneous power of the "withdrawal" installation therefore necessarily agree with the intense heating periods, whereas, on the contrary, these intense heating periods do not necessarily agree with the maximum power demand times (peak hour); for example:
in the morning there is an intense heating period during which the energy demand can be very low o c / The maximum value of the instantaneous power is limited on the other hand by the well-known relations
EMI2.1
Panax = Ql .. Q2 = Tl Olt bzz 01 Tl in which:
Q1 is. the. amount of heat produced by the boiler.
Q2 is the amount of heat used in the central heating installation;
Tl is the absolute temperature of the steam at the outlet of the. boiler;
T2 is the absolute temperature of the. steam at the outlet of the heat engine; or at the entrance to the central heating installation (or reheating condensers).
(We do not take into account here small coefficients of variation, such as the exchange temperature differences, or the return water temperature variations) o
Under these conditions, if a high instantaneous power is required, even for a short period of time, it is necessary to increase the value of Tl, therefore the pressure of the boiler, or the reheating of the steam, since T2 is at. roughly constant, and, is between 363 and 373 degrees K.
Such a device would be very expensive, and even sometimes inapplicable because of the police regulations currently in force.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
On the other hand, the "draw-off" installation would only operate at full load for a few hours a day.
The present invention, which relates to central heating installations in which the water in the boiler is at a temperature above one hundred degrees centigrade, aims to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks, currently encountered in all existing withdrawal installations where the temperature '- temperature of the fluid leaving the main boiler is greater than one hundred degrees centigrade, and to allow the momentary use of a power much greater than the maximum instantaneous power that the "withdrawal" installation can provide.
It mainly consists of the combination of an electric accumulator battery, a recharging dynamo, and regulators, with a power "exhaust" installation (mechanical energy).
grafted onto a central heating installation; combination such that the said battery is recharged in a more or less continuous way $ and more or less intense, depending on the operation of the central heating installation, the battery charge being a function of the setting of said installation, without the latter being disturbed in its normal operation by the demand for electrical energy.
Apart from this main provision, it consists of other provisions which will be discussed more specifically below, in particular:
In the use of known devices, making it possible to transform the direct current of the battery into a current of any form or voltage, meeting the requirements. common use, or vice versa; in the use of current from a "mains" to recharge the battery in the event of failure of the central heating installation, or in the event of insufficient operation;

in the arrangement which consists in adjusting the draw-off installation by means of a single valve or valve "bypassing" more or less completely the heat engine in the arrangement which consists in placing the valve or short-circuit valve -circuit under the sole dependence of the speed of the heat engine; in the arrangement which consists in the use of electric relays placed under, la. control of a tachometer directly actuated by the shaft of the heat engine, or by the recharging dynamo; said relay then controlling the valves or regulating valves; in the arrangement which consists in the use of a tachometer with contacts mounted on elastic blades, making it possible to have more than two control contacts;
in the use of regulators allowing the battery to be recharged even during the hours of low consumption of electric current on the mains of the installation; the energy then dissipated in the resistors of the regulators being used, either to actuate the water circulation motors, or to heat the water supply to the boiler (or the return water from the installation of central heating) in the use of the principle of "recovery" @ allowing the use of additional energy., in the electrical installation itself.

We take a boiler 1 (FIG 1) with a pressure higher than that of the atmosphere, we connect a pipe 2 conveying the steam to a turbine 3 or to any other piston heat engine, or not, of which automatic start is ensured in any position - One connects to pipe 2, before turbine 3, a bypass pipe 4 joined at 5 the exhaust pipe 6 of turbine 3.
Along the length of the pipe 4 is placed a valve or valve 7 controlled by a tachymeter 8, mounted on the shaft 9 of the turbine 30. This valve is normally closed. It is progressively opened as the speed of the shaft 9 of the turbine 3 increases, so that in all cases, even at no load and at maximum pressure, this turbine 3 does not can never exceed a certain preset maximum speed.
The pipes 4 and 6 are connected at 10 to a surface condenser 11, of a known type, and serving to heat the water of a central heating installation,! This water entering it for example by 12, exiting at 13, and passing through a circulation pump 14 which delivers it, through pipe 15 in the central heating installation '.
The condensed vapor escapes from the condenser 11 via pipe 16, passes through a known degassing and compression device * 17, and returns to the boiler 1 via pipe 18 ,,
Is mounted on the shaft 9, or in its extension an electric generator 19, connected by the disengageable sleeve 20 to the shaft 9. In this FIG. 1, generator 19 is at
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
direct current It is connected in a known manner to a table 21, comprising the maneuvering and regulating devices which will be discussed below. A battery of accumulators
22 is also connected to this switchboard 21. Finally, this switchboard is connected to the lighting installation (for example) 23.
This lighting installation 23 is completed by an electric regulator 24, of any known type, charged with maintaining constant the voltage on said network 23 during the period of recharging of the battery 22. The excess energy can be be, for example, used to heat the feed water of the boiler 1, by means of resistors 25, serving as control resistors.
The devices placed on table 21 are known in themselves, and do not require any special description, they are a contactor-circuit breaker 26; a voltage regulator 27; a relay 28, allowing the battery to be recharged by a means other than that of the dynamo 19. This relay 28 will make it possible, for example, if 23 is a direct current sector, to recharge the battery 22, by the current of said sector 23, in the event of stopping of the dynamo 19;
a relay 29, placed directly under the control of the device 30, itself controlled by the discharge current of the battery 22 in the sector 23. (This relay 29 has the function of bringing the value of the voltage of the generator 19 , at a value very close to that of the discharge voltage of battery 22, so that the latter and the dynamo can simultaneously deliver current to the lighting installation 23).
Finally, the installation on panel 21 is completed by means of switches 31, 32 and fuses 33,34.
Everything being arranged in the sorta, the operation of the installation is as follows:
Boiler 1 being pressurized to ensure
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
rer the central heating, the steam drives the turbine 3 and condenses in 11, if the. speed of the turbine 3 tends to exceed a certain speed, the tachometric device opens the valve or valve 7, and the steam passes directly from the boiler 1 to the condenser 11, which has the effect of immediately reducing the speed of the turbine, or to maintain this constant speed.
The generator being activated, starts, and recharges the battery 22 for the duration of the heating (for example 14 hours per day). When the battery is fully recharged, the regulator 27 prevents any overcharging. If the generator 19 stops, the contactor-circuit breaker 26 prevents any return of current.
Under these conditions, it is possible to accumulate a large quantity of electric energy, and all the more so when no demand for electricity is made on installation 23.¯,
When the lamps of the installation 23 are switched on, the device 30 actuates the relay 29 which automatically lowers the voltage of the generator 19, so that the battery and the. generator 19 can debit in parallel on the installation 23.
Under these conditions, it is conceivable that the power available on 23 could be much greater than in any other installation which would not include either the battery or the means of allowing the dynamo to be placed in parallel with this bat. - terie.
It may be that in certain cases, it is advantageous to keep the voltage of the generator 19 as high as possible, for example, when the flow rate on the installation 23 is fairly low o Under these conditions, the device 30 so that it attracts its armature 30 'only for a certain value of the intensity delivered into the installation 230 It is then that the regulator 24 comes into play which, for example, by the intercalation pe - periodic resistor 25 in circuit 23 maintains the voltage there at a constant value 6 In order not to lose the energy dissipated in this resistor 25, it is used to heat
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
the feed water for boiler 1, as shown in FIG.
It would be possible, without departing from the scope of the invention, to use any other regulator, for example a “recovery” regulator, the additional energy then being stored in its electrical form and returned either to the network 23 or to battery 22.
If, for any reason, the generator 19 is stopped, for example in summer, during the non-heating period, the battery 22 can be recharged by the installation 23 - which, for example, can be a mains supply. direct current - or by a sector entirely separate from the installation described 230
We then use the relay 28, known per se, and allowing this recharging. As goes without saying, this battery 22 will be recharged during the "off-peak" hours of the food sector in order to benefit from a preferential tariff that the electricity companies can then grant during these off-peak hours.
The energy stored in the battery 22 can be used to actuate the circulation pump or pumps 14 as soon as the central heating installation is started, which is very advantageous. The installation will naturally be completed with all the necessary safety devices *.
In the particular case where the sector to be supplied, or on which the energy is to be used, or the excess energy produced by the dynamo 19, and that accumulated in the battery 22, is alternating current, it is necessary to transform the current of the battery into a current of the same nature as the current of the mains.
In this case we do it as follows, or in an analogous way. We leave the arrangement of the motor 3 unchanged, but we go up in the extension of its shaft 9 (FIG. II), and by means of a disengageable sleeve 20, a polymorphic generator 35 capable of giving direct current to its collector 36, and of the current of a shape similar to that of the current, of the sector 39 on its
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
rings 37 and 38, (for example, single-phase AC)
One connects, as known, by means of a table 40 analogous to Eu- # to table 21 of FIG I, the side rings on the sector, and the collector side on the recharging installation.
We can understand, blood further explanation, that under these conditions, we can, at the same time, recharge the. battery 22 and supply mains 39, or use current from. battery 22 to supply the sector 39 through the generator 35, then worked as a "switch" for the part of the current supplied to it by the battery 22.
In the particular case of FIG. II, and preferably, a current rectifier 42 is added to the installation, in order to be able to recharge the battery 22 during stoppages of the generator 35 (in summer, for example).
This battery 22 will then be recharged for hours., Coeux of the sector, and it will be discharged at the. sector, for any use, by means of the generator 35 then working in reverse "commutator" mode, the coupling sleeve 20, being then, preferably, disengaged *.
In some cases, and in accordance with the invention, it will be; preferable to supply a portion, at least, of the sector 39, directly by the direct current of the battery 22 - case of lighting alone, without mixing supply of asynchronous motors '' for example -
In these special cases, three switches, preferably automatic, such as: switch 42, responsible for isolating from the rest of the sector, the part to be supplied with direct current, will be added to the installation;
the switch 42 'isolating this part, ie from the baguasse side the switch 35, and the reversing switch 43, allowing the battery to be connected either to the polymorphic dynamic, or directly to the portion of the Sector to be supplied in direct current

On the other hand, it is necessary that, during its operation, the turbine 3 - or the heat engine - maintains a constant speed, and cannot in any case exceed a maximum critical speed.
In order to obtain this regulation of the engine speed
3, in accordance with the invention, either the automatic device shown in FIG III, or better still, the servo device shown in FIG IV will be used; these devices replacing the valve 7 of FIG I, are also mounted as a bypass on the turbine 3.
In the device shown in FIG III, a certain number of valves 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49 are used, closing off the pipe 4, and controlled by the electromagnets 50 ....... 55; themselves respectively placed under the control of contacts 56 ... 61.
Opposite each of these contacts are the contacts 56 '...
61 'carried by resilient blades 62, themselves held by the arm 63 articulated at 64 and controlled (known commonly) by the tachometric device 8 ... The pairs of contacts are arranged and adjusted in such a way that they do not "close" simultaneously, but successively as the sleeve 65 of the tachometric device 80 moves
The installation is completed by wires 166 and 167, connected on the one hand to the battery 22, and on the other hand and respectively to the arm 63 and to each of the electromagnets 50 ...... 550
The whole being arranged as has just been said, the operation of the speed regulation installation is as follows;
If the speed of the turbine reaches a certain value, the masses of the tachometer move along arrows 8, 8 'and drive the sleeve 65 along arrow 8 ", which has the effect of: successively closing the pairs of contacts 61, 61 '...
56, 56 ', to successively magnetize the electromagnets
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
50 vesse 55, and open one after the other, the valves 44 ....... 49.
It will be understood that, if, from the opening of the first valve, for example 49, the steam bypass is sufficient to moderate the speed of the turbine, the tachometer 8 will be immobilized, and only this valve will be open. On the contrary, if opening one valve does not produce sufficient vapor bypass, the speed will increase slightly, the second pair of contacts will be closed, and the second valve (e.g. 48) will be open, which will increase the pressure. steam bypass ...... and so on, until all the valves are open then producing a bypass which, in any case, is capable of preventing the turbine from exceeding the value of the maximum preset speed.
If the speed decreases, the operation is reversed, and the valves are closed one after the other.
Valves 44 ........ 49 may have different sections and "lifts" ,,.
This very simple device does not make it possible to avoid "pumping" in all cases. To avoid this drawback, the device shown in FIGE will be used. IV. in which only three contacts 66, 67, and 68, and two valves 69, 70 are employed.
The valve 70 is identical to the valves 50 ...... 55, it is controlled by the contact 68. The valve 69 is controlled by a device of nut 71 and screw 72, itself controlled by a small electric motor 73 by means of a wheel 74, and a worm 75. The electric motor 73 can be actuated in both directions, depending on whether the contacts 66 or 67 are touched by the contact 661, carried by an elastic blade fixed to the arm 63 of the tachometer 8. Opposite the contact 68 is disposed a contact 68 'also carried by an elastic blade fixed to the arm 63.
At rest, the contact 66 ′ touches the contact 67. the small motor 73 closes the valve 69; contacts 68, 68 are
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
"open" so valve 70 is also closed *
When the speed of the engine 3 increases and reaches a certain value (very slightly lower than the speed) the tachometer 8 activates the arm 63 and "breaks" the contact between 66 'and 67. If the speed increases very slightly the contact 66. ' comes into contact with the contact 66 and the motor 73 rotates in a direction such that it gradually causes the opening of the valve 690
If the bypass of steam then produced is sufficient, the speed is moderate; the contacts 66, 66 'separate, and the valve 69 remains open just enough.
If the speed tends to increase again, the two contacts 66, 66 'touch each other again and the valve 69 is opened a little more If the speed decreases slightly, the contact 66' touches the contact 67, and the motor 73, running in reverse direction closes the valve 69 ..... etc .. It is understood that by this means the speed adjustment can be very precise.
If a sudden increase in speed occurs, contacts 66, 66 'and 68, 68' are simultaneously "closed"), motor 73 produces the opening of valve 69 slowly, the valve
70 is suddenly opened, which instantly moderates the speed of the turbine, and prevents it from reaching a dancing speed, even during the opening time of the valve 69.
Under these conditions, an instantaneous and perfect adjustment of the speed is obtained, between two limits as close together as desired, which is very important in the case of alternating current production, because of the need for many times. - end the frequency constant o A flywheel can be added to the turbine shaft in order to avoid too sudden variations in its speed *;
The invention is in no way limited to those of its embodiments which have just been more specifically '' 'indicated by way of example, it does include them on the contrary.

re, all variants, including:
the arrangement of using only a just sufficient number of lead-acid battery cells to obtain the supply voltage when each cell gives two volts - the differences, in addition or less, being produced by the same auxiliary dynamo acting as a booster-step-down, and continuously "topping up" voltage, that is to say that it is necessary to increase the voltage of the sector for. recharging the battery, or it is necessary to increase the discharge voltage of the battery for the mains supply;
the energy required for actuating this booster is supplied by an electric motor powered either by the sector or by the battery itself, or even directly by the turbine 3.
